“In order to save the environment, governments should discourage
overseas tourists from visiting.” Do you agree?

Many people believe that overseas tourists may have a negative effect on the environment,
and to stop that, the government should discourage these tourists from visiting. I, however,
disagree.

Firstly, the country’s economy can benefit from the large number of new jobs this industry
creates. People who work at hotels, airlines, souvenirs shops, tour agencies, many other jobs
that include interacting with tourists, would not be successful if the government discouraged
tourists from visiting.

Secondly, I must admit that tourism has a huge negative effect on the environment. Many
tourists may find the tourism attractions not as important as the locals do, so tourists may
throw away litter. In addition to this, having tourists means having more ways of
transportation which produces air pollution. This is one of the main causes of global warming,
and lately this had a big impact in the country, the Perito Moreno is melting way too soon.

Finally, I consider that, despite the negative effects the industry of tourism causes; it is of
utmost importance to learn from other cultures, history, and experiences. Eventually, the
country becomes well-known and more people look in on making their next trip here.

To sum up, I am completely convinced that the industry of tourism causes lots of beneficial
effects that are worth having.
