Lomongo, Aleah Shaira R. Roldan, Rhean Christ Walohan, Jessel B. OBJECTIVE In the end of the lesson, students are able to determine what object will sink or float. MATERIALS Water Plastic tub/basin Objects that will float or sink Worksheets FLOW PROCEDURE TIME Introductions Teachers and students will introduce 3 min. themselves. Prayer 1 min. Preparation Set up workstations for groups to test 5 min. objects' buoyancy. At each station, there ought to be a tub filled with water and a variety of sinking and floating objects. Ice Breaker 1 min. Introduction of the Inform the group of students that they will 8 min. Lesson be studying sinking and floating. Show them the items that will be tested in addition to a tub that is filled with water. Define “sink” and “float”: The sink is the process by which an object becomes submerged in a liquid. When you say "float", you're referring to the movement of an object when it sits on the surface of a liquid. Modeling Ask students to guess which objects will 10 min. float and sink. Explain to students that while heavier objects are more likely to sink to the bottom of the tub, lighter objects are more likely to remain on the surface. Show students where you want them to put a few objects by dropping them into the water, make sure to be careful in the process. Put the items in the piles that correspond to the "float" and "sink" piles. Independent Briefly discuss a few of the modeling's 10 min. Working outcomes. Invite volunteers to present some concepts to the entire class. Hand out worksheets. Give the definition of buoyancy out loud. Students are encouraged to ask questions. Help struggling students by roaming around the classroom. When they are done, have students submit their worksheets. Assessment Review the students’ “sink” and “float” piles 5 min. (from the modeling) including their worksheets. Wander around and listen to group discussions. Make any necessary recommendations and keep an eye on how well they can discuss the text and the subject. 2 Ice Breakers 5 min. Closing and Review Get the attention of the students. 10 min. Ask students if any of their results surprised them. Review the concept of sink, float, and buoyancy with them. Be open to questions. Ask them what they have learned. Closing Prayer 1 min.
