Reflection paper for National Building Code of the Philippines

“We need to be knowledgeable when it comes to the out existing codes and
regulations”, as the speaker said. National Building Code of the Philippines called the
Presidential Decree 1096 was issued on last February 19, 1977, almost a decade that
we practice the code here in the Philippines. Every year (every other year), the revision
occurs. The latest were revised in the last 2018 (According to the Speaker). The
purpose of the code was to safeguard life, not to earn. Also, the framework of minimum
standards requirement to regulate their action. Building code enforcement is the
responsibility of local government building officials. They are in charge of reviewing
design plans, inspecting construction work, and issuing permits. Building officials
inspect the site at various stages of the architecture project to guarantee that the
building is constructed in accordance with the regulations. Building official was
appointed by having a requirement of being a professional in engineering/architecture
and the capacity of being experience in building construction and design. The ruling in
the building system design provided by the code were discussed by the speaker. All the
materials were also discussed. The consideration in determining the building of the
height provided information on soil characteristics, meteorological conditions, the
environmental effects, the traffic conditions, the availability of the public utility, and the
building safety and maintenance systems.

The importance of having a code or rules and regulations in the Philippines is

that it clarifies an organization's vision, values, and ideals, linking them with professional
conduct standards. The code articulates the principles that the organization seeks to in
still in its leaders and employees, as well as the intended behavior.

Building codes are important because they ensure that architects and contractors
build structures that are as safe as possible. The main purpose of these restrictions is to
ensure the safety and well-being of tenants and people living there. This is why they are
critical to apply in our systems, particularly in a tiger economy like the Philippines.
