    Shenzhen, China transformed from a small fishing village to a major global city through the establishment of a special economic zone. This allowed Shenzhen to develop rapidly through access to preferential policies, capital and technology. It has grown to have a highly advanced economy focused on finance, trade and technology with a GDP per capita higher than the rest of Guangdong province.
