The documentary discusses the history of precision measurement tools and methods. It explains that surface plates, which provide a horizontal reference point, trace back to the earliest measuring devices. Measurement standards evolved from using parts of the human body and crops to the modern metric system standardized using an alloy bar. The gauge block was invented by Carl Edvard Johansson and can detect errors down to 125 millionths of an inch, allowing for highly precise measurements. Today, all measurement machines are highly calibrated and computerized, resulting in excellent precision.

I found it instructive to see this documentary about the history of precision,
instruments, and measurement methods. I learnt that each and every measuring device, is traced back to the surface plate which helps in developing the uniqueness of each tool and it comes to my knowledge that they are two types of surface plate: 1. Cast Iron and 2. Granite surface plate. It gives the horizontal reference point for the measurement. The unit of measurement used in the history often found in nature i.e human body and barely corn used for measuring, then the metre units is used for measuring. I found the detailed history of measurement (https://msc-conf.com/history-of-metrology/), how the measuring standard started till the standardisation of the metric system through out the world with the help of bar B27 which give dimensional stability. The gauge block was invented by inventor Carl Edvard Johansson, the block also called as Jo blocks. The blocks give high precision measurement for gauges to be measured. It is found that, it detects error at 125 millionth of inch and contains total of 81 blocks of different sizes and hundreds of thousand combination is possible, which can be joined together by the process called wringing, due the very little dimensional uncertainty. The main purpose of Jo blocks is for calibration of instruments in length standardization. Different types of Measurement: In a google search, the different units in the history (https://mtiinstruments.com/knowledge-center/history-of-measurements/), its shows how people measured in ancient days. In this current day, all measurement machines are highly accurately calibrated and totally computerised. As a result, the measurement equipment has excellent precision.
