1. The behavioral theories of leadership claim that an individual’s leadership style is fixed. Do you agree or
disagree? Give examples to support your position. The behavioral theories also claim that the ideal style is
the same in every situation. Do you agree or disagree? Again, give examples.

I don’t agree as an individual can develop leadership as he progresses in time, also, someone that also has a
good leadership trait can improve over time by learning different concepts and styles of lidership. However,
I do believe there is people that are born with an innate leadership and just have this skill by their
personality and how they were raised. And in the other theory, I believe this isn’t the case in every situation
as the leadership style can change in a concern for production or for people, in these examples there is the
task and job aspects for production to maximize profits for example, and the people leadership style
concerns the human aspects for the leader to manage.

2. A few universities are experimenting with alternative approaches, such as allowing students to design their
own majors, develop a curriculum for that major, choose professors and design courses, or self-direct and
self-evaluate their studies. These are examples of substitutes for leadership. Do you think this will lead to
better outcomes for students than a traditional approach? Would you personally like to have that type of
alternative approach at your school? Explain your answers.

Personally, I think this Will lead to better outcomes as they will be able to feel freedom and control over
what they learn, whereas, when they are told what to study and learn they will feel like the university has
full control over how they experience their life through college. I like this approach because of these past
reasons however I feel like a given leader from the organization should lead students on how they manage
these studies as they know more about the system, so charismatic leadership might be needed, where the
leader gets to influence the student's decisions for a better choice through their charisma or connection with
the students.

1. Compare and contrast the leadership styles exhibited by Steve Jobs and Tim Cook.

Steve had a style of leadership where he was a perfectionist and demanded a lot from their employees, which
made some of the leading factors get lost, like having charisma and some substitutes for leadership, meaning he
like to be involved in all decisions that apple had to make, however he showed great authority and
determination which helped employees have credibility in what he said, nevertheless there were some that
didn’t he think this was due to micromanaging and lack of empowerment for other creative employees. Cook’s
style brought back this freedom to create and make mistakes, enhancing teamwork and openness which allows
his leadership style to be considered as charismatic and a substitute for letting employees influence their own
decisions. Despite the fact both leadership styles led the organization to growth and profiting, only Cook’s style
led to openness and employee development which is crucial for a company’s future.
