Rommel, a five-year-old boy, puts a label “salt” into a jar of sugar.

Actually, he has been observing it

almost everyday because many ants are attacking the jar.

1. Why do you think Rommel has labeled the jar of sugar “salt”?
He had observed how ants infiltrated the jar. I suppose he was curious and wanted to see if the ants
would continue to invade the jar of sugar, despite the fact that he labeled it as salt. Rommel most likely
labeled the jar of sugar as salt to fool the ants into thinking it was filled with salt rather than sugar.

2. Did he use an intuitive or strategic way of thinking? Why?

He uses a strategic way of thinking. Because as you have noticed, he initiates with a vision and
concludes directly to witness what else can be aligned with it in what it does. In short, he is being
observant and analyzing the situation.

3. What is lacking in his problem-solving skills?

The boy may have excellent reasoning abilities, but this is insufficient. There is something he is lacking.
Because, in my perception, the boy should go through the five-step decision-making process. In this
approach, the experiment or observation that he made may result in a better outcome and a better
understanding of the specific problem.

Think of specific events in your life where you had to exercise intuitive thinking and strategic analysis
in your decisions. Reflect on the insights you have gained from both experiences. Write your answers
on a separate sheet of paper.
Strategic Analysis: I was worried and unsure about my project in a community-improvement
organization. I have no plans and have no idea where to begin because this is my first time working on
a project of this nature. Then I enlist the assistance of a friend who has prior experience and has
already completed this phase. She gave me advice concerning this matter and taught me the steps that
are needed to be followed to have concrete decision-making and planning. With the help of her advice,
I already know what project I would like to implement and plan it seriously to have a better result of
understanding.

Event: At house making a project

Insights: I realize how important having concrete decision-making and planning is in any aspect of our
life. Because this way, your things will be simplified, and it will be easy to determine what to focus on.

Initiative Thinking: Looking through items on Shopee makes me happy, especially if school supplies
are involved. I don't hesitate to order cute supplies whenever I see them. I just buy it until it satisfies
me, and I buy it even if it isn't part of my plan.

Event: At house using the phone to look for the things that I want

Insights: I realized we needed to consider what we were purchasing. Because there is a possibility that
you purchase items that you don't need. In essence, we should not be impulsive buyers and indecisive
types of people.
