Dr. Craig Spencer is an emergency physician who works five months per year for Doctors Without Borders (MSF) and the rest of the time in an emergency department. He has completed six missions with MSF and enjoys the opportunity to work with others committed to humanitarian aid without political involvement. While the work provides its own accommodations and amenities, it is less lucrative than the career as a cardiothoracic surgeon he initially wished to pursue.

Currently I work as a physician and in emergency medicine for Médecins
San Frontières (MSF). I work five months as a physician for MSF and in an emergency department for the rest of the time. Working for the MSF brings together incredible people, we get to work with and it is an incredible experience. I have done already six different missions and I really loved what the MSF was doing on the projects and their humanitarian principle to not get involved in the politics. When we go on the missions especially long ones we have our own space, water and WI-FI and there are special chefs who cook meals for us. At the same time this job is less profitable and rewarding than the cardiothoracic surgeon, I wished to become.
