ASSESSMENT/EVALUATION
Module: No.2

A. Give what is asked in the following. Write your answers on the space provided before the
number.
_________ 1. What is measured by the product of the force times the distance moved?
_________ 2. What is the product of the force multiplied by the perpendicular distance from the
given point to the direction of the force?
_________ 3. It is a device that gives a mechanical advantage which facilitates the doing of
work.
_________ 4. What rotating force is termed when a force moves in a circular direction to
produce a twisting action?
_________ 5. It is the rate of doing work.

B. Identify what kind of simple machine is described in each item. Write your answers on
the space provided before the number.

_________ 6. It is a ramp consisting of a flat sloping surface and used as an aid for raising or
lowering heavy loads.
_________ 7. This is a rigid bar, straight or curved, which rotates about a fixed called the
fulcrum.
_________ 8. It is a simple machine in the form of a wheel with a groove between flanges
mounted on an axle.
_________ 9. It consists of two inclined planes placed base to base.
_________ 10. It is the application or modification of the inclined plane combined with the
lever.

C. Solve for the following problems. Show your solution.

11. In the figure of the first-class lever, a load of 80 lb is exerted at a distance of 12 inches from
the fulcrum. Find the value of force applied (32 inches away from the fulcrum) required to
balance the lever.

12. Calculate the theoretical mechanical advantage MA and the load force FL for an inclined
plane with the inclination angle θ = 25° if the effort force FE is 10 N.
13. Calculate the fulcrum position of a first-class lever if its total length is 60 cm, the effort force
is 10 N and the load force is 20 N.

14. Calculate the fulcrum position of a first-class lever if its total length is 80 cm, the effort force
is 20 N and the load force is 10 N.

15. Calculate the theoretical mechanical advantage MA and the effort FE and anchor FA forces
for the system of eight pulleys shown in the Figure 10 (left side) if the load FL is 10 N.

ACTIVITY/EXERCISE:

Determine what class of lever is shown below and give three examples of each class. Write your
answers on the space provided before the number. Submit this activity together with your
assessment.
