Draw the 5 fundamental dance positions involved in folk dancing. Use OUR LECTURE NOTES
as basis in answering this part. (20 pts )

Directions: FILL IN THE BLANKS: Read the following statement below, Give the common
dance term used in Folk Dancing.
ARMS IN LATERAL POSITION 1. Both arms are at one side , either right or left; at shoulder,
chest , or waist.
SALOK 2. Swinging the arm downward – upward passing in front of the body as if scooping;
the trunk is bent forward following the movement of the arm
doing the “salok”.
PIVOT 3. To turn with the ball, heel, or whole foot, on affixed placed or point.
SALUDO 4. Partners with the feet together bow to each other to the audience,
opposite dancers, or the neighbors.
CEBECERAS 5. The couples occupying the width of the hall when dancers are in square
formation (head couple).
CLOCKWISE 6. Like the motion of the hands of the clock, right shoulder is toward the center
of an imaginary circle. When facing center, movement is toward the left.
COUNTER CLOCKWISE 7. The reverse direction of clockwise, Left shoulder toward center.
Movements are toward right when facing center of circle.
BRUSH 8. Weight on one foot, hit the floor with the ball or heel of the other foot and lift the
foot from the floor to any direction.
COSTADOS 9. The couples occupying the length of the hall when dancers are in square
formation (side pairs).
PLACE 10. A foot in a certain position without putting weight on it; the sole of the foot rests on
the floor.
OUTSIDE HAND 11. The hands away from one’s partner stand side by side.
CROSSED ARM 12. Partners facing each other standing side by side join their L hands together
and the R hands together; either R over L over R.
DI-SI-DO 13. Partners advance forward, pass each other’s right (or left) side, step across to the
right ( or left) move backward without turning around, pass each other left (or right) side to
proper places.
FREE FOOT 14. The foot not bearing the weight of the body.
CUT 15. To displace quickly one foot with the other
FREE HAND 16. The hand not placed anywhere, or not doing anything.
HOP 17. A spring from a one-foot landing on the same foot in place or in any direction.
INSIDE FOOT 18. The foot nearer the partner when partners stand side by side.
JALEO 19. Partners turn around clockwise (with R elbows almost touching) using walking or
any kind of dance step.
JUMP 20. A spring on foot or both feet landing on both feet in any direction.
HAYON-HAYON 21. To place one forearm in front and the other at the back of the waist.
KUMINTANG 22. Moving the hand from the wrist either in a clockwise or counter clockwise
direction
LEAP 23. A spring from one foot. Landing on the other foot in any direction.
OUTSIDE FOOT 24. The feet away from one’s partner stand side by side.
POINT 25. To touch the floor highly with the toes of one foot, weight of the body on the other
foot.
SAROK 26. Crossing the right (or left) foot in front of the left (or right) bend the body slightly
forward and cross the hand down in front with the right (or left hand over the left (or right).
SET 27. A dance formation like a square or a unit formation composed of two or more pairs.
SLIDE 28. To glide foot smoothly along the floor.
STAMP 29. To bring the foot forcibly and noisily on the floor.
STEP 30. Advance or recede by moving one foot to another resting place with a complete
transfer of weight from one foot to the foot.
SUPPORTING FOOT 31. The foot the bears the weight of the body.
TAP 32. To rap slight with the ball or toe of the foot keeping weight of the body on the other
foot. There is no transfer of weight.
WHIRL 33. To make fast turns by executing small steps in place, to right, on the left.
