3. List and describe the different forms of plagiarism. (5 marks)
4. There are differences between a reference list and a bibliography. Discuss these
differences. (3 marks)
5. Reflect on the following and identify if these are examples of plagiarism. Give
reasons for your answer.
a. June uses an internet journal article in researching her assignment. She finds
many points in the journal article beneficial, and adapts them for her
assignment. Since she does not quote from the text, she does not cite it in her
paper, but places the reference in the bibliography.
b. Thato gives you the opportunity to read his master’s thesis to get some ideas
and advises you to use some parts of the thesis that you may find useful. You
include one of his para- graphs in your assignment, and you are careful to
include all quotations from his thesis in your footnotes, so that the reader can
recognise the source of the content.
c. Mary discovers a picture on the web that perfectly reflects the point she
needs to make in her assignment. She downloads the image, but does not use
the website analysis; she also writes her own caption for the photo. Since
Mary considers the analysis and the caption to be her own, she does not
quote the photo.
