You should use the sources to which you are specifically directed, but you may use any of the other sources where they are helpful. 1 This question is about the causes’ of World War 2. Study the sources and then answer the questions. (a) Study Source A. Was this source written by a British or a Russian historian? Explain your answer, (8) Source A In March 1939 the Soviet Union opened talks with Britain and France to discuss ways of preventing Fascist aggression. These talks, which lasted until August 1939, showed how unwilling Britain and France were to set up a united front against Hitler, As a result the USSR stood alone in the face of the growing Fascist threat. In this situation the USSR had to make a treaty of non-aggression with Germany. Some historians tried to prove that this treaty helped to start the Second World War.
