5.4 SETUP MENU EXPLANATIONS

5.4.1 MENU 1: PRESET
Calculating the Span
The Span is used to convert the flowmeter output current to a quantity. The basis is the flow rate per
second at 20 mA signal. Two examples are given.
Example 1
● The flowmeter generates 20 mA at a flow rate of 2,481.3 Liter/minute.
● The quantity will be displayed using m3 (1.1: PRESET > UNIT).
● The rate per second is 2,481.3 / 60 = 41.355 L/sec, which equals 0.041355 m3/sec. Thus, the
span is 0.041355.
● Enter the Span as 041355 at 1.3: PRESET > SPAN and 6 at 1.4: PRESET > DECIMALS SPAN.
Example 2
● The flowmeter generates 20 mA at a flow rate of 652.31 USGAL per hour.
● The quantity will be displayed using barrels (1.1: PRESET > UNIT).
● The rate per second is 652.31 / 3600 = 0.181197 USGAL/sec, which equals 0.0043142 barrels/
sec. Thus, the Span will be 0.0043142.
● Enter the Span as 004314 at 1.3: PRESET > SPAN and 6 at 1.4: PRESET > DECIMALS SPAN.

User Manual F030-A

1 PRESET
1.1 UNIT Determines the measurement unit for preset, total and accumulated
total. The following units can be selected:
L - m3 - kg - lb - GAL - USGAL - bbl - no unit
Changing the measurement unit will have consequences for operator
and setup values. Please note that the Span should be checked also.
Recalculation is not done automatically.
1.2 DECIMALS Determines for Preset, Total and Accumulated Total the number of digits
after the decimal point.
1.3 SPAN This value is used to convert the flowmeter output to a flow unit. The
Span is based on the flow rate per second at 20 mA sensor signal, and
the selected measurement unit, as defined in 1.1: PRESET > UNIT.
Accuracy of the measurement system depends on the accuracy of the
Span.
Examples are given just above this table.
1.4 DECIMALS SPAN This setting determines the number of decimals for the Span
(1.3: PRESET > SPAN). Please note that this setting influences the accuracy
of the Span indirectly.
This setting has NO influence on the displayed number of digits set for
Unit (1.2: PRESET > DECIMALS).
1.5 BATCH MAXIMUM Sets the operator limit for entering a new preset value.

5.4.2 MENU 2: OVERRUN

Overrun can occur at the end of the batch process, as a result of slowness of a valve / pump.
Consequently, the accuracy is less. With this function, the F030 analyses the actual overrun
characteristic after every batch. This information is used to correct the overrun automatically.
2 OVERRUN
2.1 OVERRUN Enables/disables overrun function. Please note that, for accurate
overrun correction, the flowmeter used must have sufficient resolution
and an acceptable update time.
Do not enable the overrun functionality if the flowmeter does not meet
these requirements.
2.2 TIME The overrun characteristic of the system will be analyzed during a
certain time after ending of the batch. In this way, false signal generated
through leakage is eliminated. It is advisable to provide extra time in
order to avoid an incorrect overrun correction or false leakage alarms.
Enter here the expected time needed by the system to stop a batch.
Note that the next batch can only be started after the overrun time has
passed.
The minimum overrun time is 0.1 second, maximum 999.9 seconds.

5.4.3 MENU 3: DISPLAY

3 DISPLAY
3.1 FUNCTION The large 17mm digits can be set to display actual batched quantity
(increase) or to display the remaining quantity to be batched (decrease).

Display backlight is only available with Type ZB. The following functions
will affect this optional backlight.

3.2 BACKLIGHT With this setting, the optional backlight can be turned on or off.
3.3 BACKLIGHT Backlight brightness can be adjusted with this setting. A value from 1 to
BRIGHTNESS 5 can be selected, where 1 is minimum, and 5 maximum brightness.

5.4.4 MENU 4: POWER MANAGEMENT

4 POWER MANAGEMENT
4.1 LCD UPDATE Sets the LCD display refresh rate. The following can be selected:
fast - 1 sec - 3 sec - 15 sec - 30 sec - off
When a key is pressed, the display refresh rate will switch to ‘fast’ for 30
seconds. After this the refresh rate will return to the set update rate.
Please note that no information will be lost at low refresh rates: all
sensor input will be processed in the background.
Calculating the display information significantly affects the power
consumption. When the application does not require a fast display
refresh rate, it is strongly advised to select a slow rate.
Indication of expected battery life:
● 4.1: POWER MANAGEMENT > LCD UPDATE set to fast: 2 years
● 4.1: POWER MANAGEMENT > LCD UPDATE set to 1sec: 5 years.
4.2 BATTERY MODE The F030-A has two main modes: operational and shelf mode. In shelf
mode the product can be stored for several years with extremely low
power consumption from the battery. All settings and totals are
maintained in memory.
To wake up the F030 from shelf mode, simply press the ▲ key twice.

5.4.5 MENU 5: FLOWMETER

5 FLOWMETER
5.1 FORMULA The F030-A can process the analog (0)4-20mA signal in two ways:
linear or as a root.
● Interpolation: the signal is processed in a linear way
R=SxI
● Square root: the signal is processed applying a square root, f.i. with
differential pressure sensoring
R=S√I
where R is the calculated flow rate, S is the maximum flow rate at 20mA
(1.3: PRESET > SPAN), and I is the scaled analog input between 0 (for
minimum input, (0)4 mA) and 1 (for maximum input, i.e. 20mA).
5.2 FILTER The analog output signal of a flowmeter mirrors the actual process
value. This signal is sampled several times per second by the F030-A.
Consequently, random and/or fast changes in sensor signal may lead to
instable displayed process values. With the help of the filter setting a
stable and accurate reading can be obtained. The filter function is based
on three values: the last sampled input signal, the last average value
and the set filter level. The higher the filter level chosen, the slower the
response of the unit to step changes in the process value will be.
The table below gives response times related to filter levels.
RESPONSE TIME ON STEP CHANGE OF INPUT VALUE (IN % OF END VALUE)
Filter value 50% 75% 90% 99%
01 filter disabled filter disabled filter disabled filter disabled
02 0.3 sec 0.5 sec 1.0 sec 1.8 sec
03 0.5 sec 1.0 sec 1.5 sec 3.0 sec

5 FLOWMETER
5.3 CUT-OFF To ignore small flows e.g. leakage or vibration, a low-flow cut-off can be
set. If the input is below cut-off, the signal will be ignored.
The cut-off is set as percentage of the full 16 (20) mA range, and can be
set from 0.0 to 99.9 %. The value to be set depends on the processing
formula set at 5.1: FLOWMETER > FORMULA, and follows the span as set in
1.3: PRESET > SPAN.
Two examples are given below.
EXAMPLES OF CUT-OFF CALCULATIONS
Signal processing Span Cut-off Cut-off percentage Threshold input signal
Interpolation 450 L/min 25 L/min (25/450)*100%=5.5% 16mA*5.5%+4mA=4.88mA
Square root 450 L/min 25 L/min (25/450)2*100%=0.3% 16mA*0.3%+4mA=4.05mA
5.4 CALIBRATE LOW The unit is calibrated in factory using a very accurate current source. In
case the flowmeter signal does not equal (0)4mA at flow rate zero, this
function is needed to set the minimum input current at flow rate zero.
The input loop powered version of the F030-A (Type PL) requires an
input signal of at least 4 mA, not lower.
Be very sure that the offered tuning signal is stable and correct
before using it for calibration, since this setting has major
influence on the accuracy of the system.
After pressing PROG, one of three options can be selected.
● CALIBRATE: with this choice, the minimum input will be set at the
actual input current. After pressing ENTER, CAL SET will be
displayed when the calibration process is completed. From now on,
the input current must be higher than the newly calibrated value in
order to be processed.
● DEFAULT: re-installs the factory calibration.
● CAL SET: selects the latest calibrated value.
5.5 CALIBRATE HIGH The unit is calibrated in factory using a very accurate current source. In
case the flowmeter signal does not equal 20mA at maximum flow rate,
this function is needed to set the input current at maximum flow rate.
Be very sure that the offered tuning signal is stable and correct
before using it for calibration, since this setting has major
influence on the accuracy of the system.
After pressing PROG, one of three options can be selected.
● CALIBRATE: with this choice, the maximum input will be set at the
actual input current. After pressing ENTER, CAL SET will be
displayed when the calibration process is completed. From now on,
the input current must be lower than the newly calibrated value in
order to be processed.
● DEFAULT: re-installs the factory calibration.
● CAL SET: selects the latest calibrated value.

6.4 ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION

Hazardous area installations
The following chapter gives general information regarding the electrical installation of the
F030-A. Section 7: Intrinsically safe applications [»32] gives additional specific information
regarding intrinsically safe installation and has priority over the information given in this
chapter. Only F-Series with Type XI are fit for use in Hazardous Areas.

● Do not combine metal front covers with non-metallic rear covers, vice versa and / or cable
glands. A metal cover on a non-metallic rear cover could lead to ESD. A metal cable gland in a
non-metallic enclosure could invalidate isolation.
● The installation must comply with (inter)national requirements and local ordinances.
○ Within the EU and the UK, all installations must comply with national regulations.
○ Within Canada all field wiring must conform to Section 18-156 of the Canadian Electrical
Code for installations within Canada.
○ Within the United States all field wiring must conform to the National Electric Code, NFPA
70, Article 501-4(b).

● Electro static discharge can inflict irreparable damage to electronics! Before installing or
opening the product, always first discharge yourself by touching a well-grounded object.
● For reasons of ESD and safety, always ground the metal enclosure properly as indicated,
especially if your F-Series has been supplied with the 115-230V AC power-supply type PM or
relays type OR. It is the responsibility of the installer to install, connect and test the Protective
Earth connections in accordance with the (inter)national Rules and Regulations.

6.4.1 ELECTRICAL SAFETY

First consult the table with limiting environmental conditions and safety parameters in Section 6.1:
Installation / environmental conditions [»17].

General remarks
● Please note that the F030-A that came with a power module type PM will carry 110V-230V AC
when installed. In addition, units supplied with Type OR have relays which can handle voltages
up to 230V AC. Units carrying dangerous voltages shall be connected to the Protective Earth
(PE). Please check Section 6.4.2: Protective earth (PE) connections [»24].
● The wire screens (shield) are meant to prevent electromagnetic interference and shall be
connected to the common ground terminals that belong to the specific sensor connection.
● The wire screens shall be terminated at one side to prevent wire loops. Inside of the F030-A, the
different common ground terminals are connected to each other. It is advised, as illustrated, to
terminate the wire screens in the vicinity of the sensor and to insulate the wire screen with a
shrink tube at the F030-A side.
● Ensure a reliable ground connection for both the sensor, and if applicable, for the metal
enclosure.
● Use effective screened cable for the input signal, and grounding of its screen to the “┴ “ terminal
or at the sensor itself, whichever is appropriate to the application.
● Apply cable glands with effective IP67 / TYPE 4(X) seals for all wires.
● Close off unused cable entries: ensure that you fit IP67 / TYPE 4(X) plugs to maintain rating.
6.4.2 PROTECTIVE EARTH (PE) CONNECTIONS
Inside the product, different types of bonding and earthing are used. The common ground is mostly
used for termination of the wire shields; the Protective Earth (PE) is used for electrical safety.
For externally powered installations, route the Protective Earth (PE) grounding conductor into the
enclosure together with the incoming power conductors.

Risk of equipment damage

Be very careful when connecting the common ground of the system to Protective Earth (PE).
Connecting the common ground to Protective Earth (PE) (especially when multiple power
supplies are connected) can cause ground loop currents that could damage the equipment.

Page 24 FW_F030-A_M_v0501-01_EN
F030-A User Manual

Connecting Protective Earth to a non-metallic enclosure

When the F030-A is supplied with a non-metal enclosure (e.g. plastic), the field mount enclosure
meets the requirements of class 2 (double insulated). Therefore any incoming PE conductor can be
terminated with an insulating end cap.
When the F030-A is panel mounted, the installation class and protective earth requirements depend
on the panel or type of cabinet.
Connecting Protective Earth to a metal enclosure
When the F030-A is supplied with a metal enclosure (aluminum or stainless steel), the enclosure
must be grounded in accordance with national and local electrical codes.
To ground the field mounted unit, the PE conductor must be connected to the PE stud which is
located in the metal back cover, as indicated in the image below. To connect the conductor, a screw
(M4 x 6mm) with a serrated washer, a terminal and a washer is used (torque: 2 Nm). The metal front
cover is connected to the Protective Earth by the mounting screws with serrated washers.
To ground the panel mounted unit, the PE conductor must be connected to the metal front cover
through one of the four mounting screws. For this purpose, an additional nut, terminal and washer is
supplied.

Serrated washer ensures PE

connection.

6.4.3 FIELD WIRING CONNECTIONS

● Do ground the aluminum / stainless steel enclosure properly with a PE wire as indicated to the
Protective Earth terminal. It is the responsibility of the installer to install, connect and test the
Protective Earth connections in accordance with the local and (inter)national Rules and
Regulations.
● When a power supply is connected to the field wiring connections, please also consider the
demands for power supply wiring shown in Section 6.4.4: Power supply [»26].
● The installation must comply with (inter)national requirements and local ordinances.
○ Within the Europe Union and the UK, all installations must comply with national regulations.
○ Within Canada all field wiring must conform to Section 18-156 of the Canadian Electrical
Code for installations within Canada.
○ Within the United States all field wiring must conform to the National Electric Code, NFPA
70, Article 501-4(b).

All field wiring enters the F030-A through the bottom of the enclosure and connects to the circuit
assembly inside the enclosure. Wiring is routed through cable glands. Please make sure to order the
F030-A with the correct drilling pattern and thread (metal) or hole (plastic) sizes.
The wire screens (shield) are meant to prevent electromagnetic interference and shall be terminated
at one side to prevent ground loops. Connection of the screen can either be made to the common
ground terminal or at the sensor itself, whichever is appropriate to the application.
Inside of the F030-A, the various common ground terminals are connected to each other. It is
advised to terminate the wire screens in the vicinity of the sensor and to insulate the wire screen
with a shrink tube at the F030-A side.
6.4.4 POWER SUPPLY

When not directly supplied from mains (type PM), the external power supply must be an
approved ELV source, insulated from AC mains by double / reinforced insulation per CSA
C22.2 No. 61010-1 / UL61010-1 / EN/IEC 61010-1.
The F030-A can be powered from an external power supply. For Type PX or PD, an optional internal
power supply is also available in the form of a lithium battery (Type PB). When both external and
internal power supplies are available, the internal power supply is interrupted and will act as a
backup supply. Note that the optional backlight (Type ZB) requires an external power supply.
Type PX (8-30V DC) or PD (16-30 V DC)
All F030‘s are supplied with two terminals to power the product externally. With Type PX, a supply of
0.3W is required. Type PD offers an additional power output to supply the flowmeter and requires
1W.
Type PL - power by sensor signal
The F030-A-PL is powered from the 4-20 mA input signal.
Type PB – battery
Additional to the Types described above, Type PB offers an internal lithium primary battery, which
powers the F030 when no external supply is available.
Type PF (24 V) or PM (mains)
When the F-Series is supplied with Type PF, a power supply of 24V AC/DC, 15W is required. When
Type PM is supplied, mains power of 115 – 230 V AC, 15W is required.
6.4.5 SENSOR SUPPLY
Type PD – Terminal 6: sensor supply
With Type PD, a power supply for the sensor is available at terminal 6. This terminal is internally
connected to terminal 5, thus the available voltage will be the same as supplied at terminal 5.
Type PF/PM – Terminal 7: sensor supply 8.2 V, 12 V or 24 V.

Type PM: HIGH VOLTAGE 400V

Be sure that all the leads to the terminals are disconnected from the F030-A when the
internal plastic protection cover has been removed.
Types PF and PM offer a power supply for the sensor of 8.2V, 12V or 24V DC (max. 400mA@24V).
The voltage is selected with the three switches inside the F030-A.
To gain access to the switches, first remove the terminal strip(s) after which the internal plastic cover

Optional battery – Type PC

With Type PC your product is equipped with an intrinsically safe, certified long-life Lithium primary
battery. The battery will power the F030 when external power is not available, and may be
exchanged in hazardous areas. For further information please see Section 8.3: Battery
replacement [»42].

7.3.1 POWER SUPPLY

The F030-A can be powered from an external power supply. For Types PX or PD, an optional
internal power supply is also available in the form of an intrinsically safe lithium primary battery
(Type PC). When both external and internal power supplies are available, the internal power supply
is interrupted and will serve as a backup supply. Note that the optional backlight (Type ZB) requires
an external power supply.
Type PC - battery
Additional to the Types described above, Type PC offers an internal intrinsically safe lithium primary
battery, which powers the F-Series when no external supply is available.
This ATEX / IECEx certified battery (FW-LiBAT) may be replaced in hazardous area, but only with a
new certified intrinsically safe FW-LiBAT battery (Section 8.3: Battery replacement [»42]).
