count. These modules connect to SCADAPack E Smart RTU RTUs via the 5000 Series I/O bus.
SCADAPack 300E and SCADAPack ES RTUs support I/O expansion using 5000 Series expansion
modules.
Each I/O module has hardware address selection switches which allow the modules to be connected in
a daisy-chain manner for even greater flexibility.
Features
A single SCADAPack E RTU supports connection with up to sixteen (16) 5000 Series I/O (input/output)
modules. See Table 3.1 7 for the number of modules allowed for specific RTU models.
The types of 5000 Series input and output modules supported by SCADAPack E Smart RTUs are:
The list of expansion I/O modules supported by SCADAPack E RTUs is shown below.
Hint: If a configuration file including 5000 Series I/O is loaded into an RTU model that does not
support 5000 series I/O modules, a System Error Code value of 3007 is written, “5000 Series I/
O Config. Error.”
Further information and specifications on these modules can be obtained from the Schneider Electric
product manuals or from the web site at http://www.schneider-electric.com.

5000 Series I/O Expansion 9
Each type of I/O module connected to the I/O Bus needs to have a unique I/O module address.
Each module has a Bus address that is set by DIP switches. Different types of I/O modules may have
the same module address.
The 5606, 5607, 5608, 5609, 5610 and 5611 modules accept module addresses 0 to 7 only. That is to
say that only a total of eight of any combination of these modules are supported on the I/O bus at a
time.
Hint: 5000 Series modules are shipped from the factory at address zero. If the modules on the bus
are different types, then no address changes are necessary.
As the module communications is polled from the SCADAPack E RTU, I/O performance will depend on
the number of modules on the bus.
Also take into consideration that the RTU's CPU needs to time-stamp data generated by 5000 Series I/O
(at the time of reception from the I/O bus).

4 Connecting Modules
All 5000 Series modules are DIN rail mounted and connect together with inter-module cables (IMC).
The IMC distributes power and communication signals to the 5000 Series modules. These power and
communication signals are referred to as the I/O Bus.
The figures below show the I/O Bus connector.
The IMC is a 16-conductor ribbon cable. 5000 Series modules ship with a 5cm (2 inch) IMC cable. A
7.5cm (3 inch) Inter Module Cables is available, which can be used to connect to adjacent modules on a
DIN rail.
The maximum total cable length in a single system is specified at 48 inches (1.22m). Schneider Electric
5000 Series I/O Expansion 13
has standard cable lengths of 12, 18, 24, 30 and 45 inches available. These cables can be used in
various combinations to meet the 48 inch limit.
The IMC12 (12 inch) and IMC30 (30 inch) cables are normally used to connect modules on separate DIN
rails. Figure 4.2 below shows two available IMC cables.
The I/O Bus does not support “live-swapping”. It is highly recommended to power down the RTU

and I/O modules before adding another module to the Bus, or replacing a module.
When using a shield for an IMC cable between modules, the shield should be fastened to one
Note: module only, and that module should be the one closest to the controller. Connect the shield
to the enclosure using the self-tapping screw provided.
Some 5000 Series modules require an external DC supply to operate properly. A range of

voltages can usually be tolerated. Check the specifications of the module prior to installation.
5 Configuration
SCADAPack E supports configuration of 5000 Series modules and mapping of the I/O channels into the
RTU Point Database.
The 5000 Series module configuration has its own configuration page within SCADAPack E Configurator.
The 5000 Series I/O page is located in the I/O folder.
Where 5000 Series I/O forms part of the SCADAPack E Smart RTU I/O configuration (as is the case for
SCADAPack 300E controllers), the I/O folder page for the configuration is displayed as SCADAPack I/O
, as shown in the figure below.
5000 Series modules are selected and configured on the left-hand part of the page, and the channels on
each individual module are connected to RTU database points in the right-hand part of the page. The
SCADAPack E Configurator will automatically create a point of the appropriate type if it does not already
exist.
The 5000 Series I/O Configurator property page will enforce the module addressing rules listed in
Section System Capacity 9 .
Each module in the left part of the page will be displayed in order of module type and address.

The actual row-position does not need to reflect the physical layout of the modules on the Bus.
Adding new Modules 17
Configuration Fields 21
5000 Series I/O Expansion 17
Dialog controls that are not applicable for the selected module type are grayed-out. Once the module
parameters have been configured, add the module to the configuration using the “OK” button. The newly
added module is displayed in the left-hand pane of the 5000 Series I/O property page.
A dialog will appear (see Figure 5.6 18 ) to request that the user confirm that the correct module is to be
deleted. If the user clicks “Yes” and the module has RTU database points mapped to its I/O channels,
another dialog will be shown asking if the user wishes to delete the mapped points from the RTU
database.
SCADAPack E Configurator will automatically create a point of the appropriate type if it does not already
exist within its database.
Some I/O module types require the user to select the channel’s input voltage or current range for writing
to the 5000 Series module. These fields are inactive if not required.
5000 Series I/O Expansion 19
Applying Configurations
The 5000 Series I/O configurations are only applied when either fully or incrementally reconfiguring the
RTU.
This can be done by using the SCADAPack E Configurator “File \ Write RTU Configuration” menu
item or toolbar button. Alternatively the command line interface can be used (given an appropriate
configuration file) using the “restart config <filename>” command. Refer to the SCADAPack E
Operational Reference manual for more details.

Filter 24
Module Address
This is the module’s hardware address as set by DIP switches.
Modules are shipped from the factory with a default address of 0.
The address rules described in Section System Capacity 9 apply.
Module Type
Supported modules are listed in Overview / Supported 5000 Series Modules 7 and selected in the
“Add 5000 Series Module” Dialog in SCADAPack E Configurator I/O | SCADAPack I/O and 5000 Series
I/O pages.
If either the Module Type or Module Address fields need to be changed the module will need to be
deleted and then added with the new Module Type and Module Address selection.
Configuration file technical information for the 5000 series I/O is described in the SCADAPack E
Configuration File Format Reference manual in the Table Format / RD Data Concentrator Remote
Devices Table section.
5000 Series I/O Expansion 23
The Binary Status Point field allows the user to configure an optional RTU database binary point
number that indicates the health of the I/O card.
When configured, a single derived binary point is created by the RTU for the I/O module status of each
module used. If not already existing these points will be created by the data concentrator upon
reconfiguration of the RTU.
SCADAPack E Configurator will not create this status point automatically.
The status points may be configured with an address anywhere in the RTU User binary point space.
A value of "NONE" or 65535 means that a status point is not configured and not used.
At runtime, if the module status point’s Current State is ‘ON’, then the module is responding to polls
from the RTU.
If the Data Concentrator cannot create this point at run-time, Error Code 3008 is written to the RTU's
System Error Code (5000 Series I/O Point Creation Error).
24 SCADAPack E 5000 I/O Expansion Reference Manual
The value of this field represents a configurable filter rate that can be used to dampen process variations
or noise in each analog input channel. This field is valid for the following I/O module types only:
The setting is common to AI channels on the I/O module and is downloaded to the module itself by the
RTU.
The possible entries are listed below along with their enumerated values (used in configuration files).
Values applicable to the 5606, 5607, 5609, 5611 and 5506 AI modules:
3 Hz = 0
6 Hz = 1
11 Hz = 2
30 Hz = 3
The following are typical response times resulting from the filters on a 5506 module:
155ms at 60Hz
< 3 Hz
185ms at 50Hz
5.5.4 Line Frequency, Analog Output Type, & DNP Point No.
Line Frequency
Some modules allow the internal DI and AI scanning rates to be determined by the Line Frequency
setting. This maximizes noise rejection on AI channels and maximizes threshold voltages for AC DI
channels. Input scanning can be synchronized to either 50 Hz or 60Hz. Performance is improved at the
correct frequency. If the module is used in a DC environment, the 60 Hz setting will yield slightly faster
response time.
This field is only valid for the following I/O module types: 5606, 5607, 5608, 5609, 5610 & 5611 Mixed I/
O, and 5506 AI. The setting is common to AI channels on the I/O module and is downloaded to the
module by the RTU.
The Line Frequency selection is as follows (listed along with their enumerated values as used in
configuration files):
60 Hz = 0
50 Hz = 1
The 5606, 5607 and 5611 I/O Modules can be equipped with an optional 5305 Analog Output Module
that provides two analog outputs. This is normally factory-fitted at the time of order. The Output Type
setting selects the output current range for both AO channels on the 5606, 5607 or 5611 modules.
This field is valid for the following I/O module types only:
The Analog Output selection is as follows (listed below along with their enumerated values used in
configuration files):
For more information see SCADAPack E Configuration Format Reference.
0-20 mA Output = 0
4-20 mA Output = 1
The Point Type will be a Physical type that matches that of the I/O channel.
SCADAPack E Configurator will automatically create a point of the appropriate type if it does not already
exist. If the user enters a point number that has already been mapped by the Data Concentrator
configuration, a message dialog will be displayed.
26 SCADAPack E 5000 I/O Expansion Reference Manual
If the Data Concentrator engine detects a configuration error at run-time, a System Error Code value of
3007 is written, “5000 Series I/O Configuration Error”.
5000 Series I/O Expansion 27
The value of this field represents the configurable analog input signal range specific to each Analog input
channel.
This field is valid for the following I/O module types only:
The possible selections are listed below along with their enumerated values (used in configuration files).
SCADAPack E analog point scaling is dependent upon the point's RAW_MIN and RAW_MAX
attributes.
In general, Analog / Digital Converter (ADC) on the 5000 Series I/O modules returns 0 to 32767 counts
being 0 to 100% of the selected input range for the channel. This is scaled to the point's database
Integer value in the range RAW_MIN to RAW_MAX.
For example, if a 5000 Series I/O module point's attributes are RAW_MIN = 0, RAW_MAX = 10000 then
100% of the selected input signal range corresponds to 10000 counts.
See SCADAPack E Data Processing Technical Reference manual for more information.
The analog input signal ranges available on particular I/O module models may vary slightly. See the
appropriate I/O Module hardware manual for more information.
The following values are used in the RTU configuration file to set the AI channel input signal types. For
more information see the SCADAPack E Configuration File Format Reference.
5209 AI Channel:
0 to 10V / 0 to 40mA = 0
0 to 5V / 0 to 20mA = 1
1 to 5V / 4 to 20mA = 2
5506 AI Channel:
0 to 5V = 0
1 to 5V = 1
28 SCADAPack E 5000 I/O Expansion Reference Manual
0 to 20mA = 2
4 to 20mA = 3
5505 AI Channel:
Deg. Celsius = 0
Deg. Fahrenheit = 1
Deg. Kelvin = 2
Ohms = 3
5000 Series I/O Expansion 29
Modules not responding or are not connected to the bus will have their Digital Status point’s Current
State set to ‘OFF’. RTU database points mapped to I/O channels on that non-responsive module will
have their “I/O Not Responding” attribute set.
The non responding or powered-off module will then be polled at 30 second intervals by the RTU.
Should the module subsequently respond, the module’s Digital Status point will be set ‘ON’ and the
mapped point’s “I/O Not Responding” attribute cleared.
In general, analog input point “Over-Range” or “Under-Range" status can be provided by both a 5000
series module AI channel's "Over-Range" and "Under-Range" status as well as by the SCADAPack E
Data Processor from the analog input point's configuration attributes.
See the hardware manual for your 5000 series module for further information on the "Over-Range" and
"Under-Range" status. See below for out of range handling on the 5505 RTD Module 29 .
SCADAPack E analog input point "under-range" and "over-range" configuration attributes can be used to
set narrower limits than the fixed under-range and over-range reported by the module, if desired.
The 5505 RTD module reports Over-Range and Under-Range status for each RTD input channel. The
settings for the under/over range status is dependent on the RTD range set for the channel. See the
5505 RTD Input Module Hardware Manual for more information.
SCADAPack E analog input point under-range over-range configuration attributes can also be used with
5505 RTD input points to set narrow limits than the fixed under-range and over-range reported by the
module, if desired.
The 5505 RTD module can also report that an input channel has an "open status". This sets the mapped
point's “Over-Range” attribute.
