Prob. # 1] A pump, delivers 320 lps of oil (SG = 0.88), has a 400-mm diameter suction
pipe and a 14-inch diameter discharge pipe. The suction vacuum gauge located 10 inches
below the pump centerline reads 125 mm Hg. The discharge gauge, which is 20 inches
above the pump centerline, reads 12 psi. Determine the pump power if the pump
efficiency is 79 %. (20 points)

Prob. # 2] Points A and B are separated by 915 m of new 152.4 mm diameter cast iron
pipe. 50 lps of water flow from point A to point B. Point B is 18.5 m above point A. a) What
must be the pressure at point A if the pressure at point B is 345 kPag if the head loss
between points is 40 m? b) Determine the type of flow inside the pipe. (20 points)

Prob. # 3] A pipe discharges 142 lps of water into a reservoir at a point 1.85 m below the
water surface. At point A the diameter is 25.4 cm and the center of the pipe is 1.25 m
above the water surface. At the discharge end the pipe is 30.5 cm. If the head loss from
A to the reservoir is 0.7 m, determine the pressure in A. (30 points)

Prob. # 4] The test results for a 254 mm x 152 mm x 306 mm duplex, direct acting pump
are shown below.
Time of test 1 hr
Steam used at 1.4 Mpaa, Saturated 568 kg
Steam Exhaust pressure 0.10 Mpaa
Piston speed 38 strokes per cylinder
Water pumped 22 700 kg
Pump TDH 76 m
Water temperature 82 oC
Determine: a) the pump discharge rate; b) the pump volumetric efficiency; c) the pump
waterpower; and d) the pump duty. (20 points)

Prob. # 5] A 110 mm x 210 mm single acting, triplex, indirect acting pump is driven by a
1760 rpm electric motor. The temperature of water is 110 C and the pump TDH is 230 m.
If the pump efficiency is 88 %, the volumetric efficiency is 95 %, and the mechanical
efficiency is 90 %. Specify the size of the driving motor. (20 points)
