1. Demographic analysis is the study of a population-
based on factors such as age, race, and sex. Why do the companies must do demographic
analysis before they run their business?

Demographic segmentation or demographic segmentation is an attempt to divide


the population in the market into several segments based on variables. Some of these
variables are categorized into several things, such as age, education, and other categories.
Companies or business people will associate variables with consumer tastes, behaviors
and habits. In simple terms, this is one type of segmentation that is carried out for
business purposes. Reporting from McKinsey & Company, the demographic
segmentation of consumers in Indonesia reaches 55 million urban people and 15 million
rural people. The way demographic segmentation works is by breaking down the
population and separating several categories based on more specific categorizations. For
example, gender, age, economic level, and so forth. That way, as a business person, you
can find out the general description of consumers, to find out which loyal customers,
potential customers and other types of consumers.

According to Business News Daily, there are several main segments in


determining consumer demographics in the context of marketing, including:
1. Age: Age is one of the most important demographic factors. This is a good indicator
of the group of users who visit a web page, as well as the age group that buys the
most. Provides information about the cont en that appeals to particular age groups,
and in which potential can be identified.
2. Gender: Gender information indicates which parts of the website or product are more
suitable for men or women. Classifying visits by gender can form the basis for
planning campaigns targeting men or women.
3. Education: Education data shows, for example, whether a user has attended college.
Income: Income information makes it easier for you to target high-income people, for
example, to buy high-end products.
4. Interests: User interest data shows the interests of web page visitors and allows to
draw conclusions about consumer behavior. For example, if there is interest for a
certain product category on the part of a user, marketers can create ads that focus on
this interest.
5. Language: For online marketing and website design, the language of the target group
is important. This is especially true for internationally oriented online stores. For
example, ads and content should be directed to the language spoken by the target
group.
6. Country: What region, city or country are my users from? This question is important
for targeting specific advertising actions for these geographic landmarks.

Summarizing from Indeed and Business News Daily, here are some reasons why
demographics are so important for companies because they can attract more customers
before running their business.
 Information from demographics allows a business to predict the size of its target
market. Thus, enabling businesses to create business strategies and marketing
plans that are right on target.
 Demographics enable businesses to accurately research the market. Thus, helping
businesses to know consumers who will be interested in buying their products or
services.
 Information from demographics also allows businesses to build an image that fits
their target audience. -By knowing things like age to social class, a business can
build a suitable logo and branding strategy.
 Data from demographics also allows businesses to determine the media to be used
for their marketing activities. For example, if a business is targeting a senior
audience, of course social media use will not be as effective as marketing to a
younger audience.
 Assist a business in building an accurate customer persona. So you can find out
what the target audience needs and wants.
