Story of my name
I'm Basil Magdi Salah Eldeen Abualgasim. Tambul is our family name. We belong to Alhalfaween tribe
wich is one of four nubiean tribes.Nubiean tribe is Sudanese tribe. In 1870 my great grandfather
moved from Halfa to Nolwata Island because of trading.Halfa and Nolwata both of them in the far
north. He had a lot of markets in Halfa Egypt Nolwata .My grandfather born in Nolwata and my father
too.In 1962 the whole family moved to Khartoum wich is the capital of Sudan . I born in Saudi Arabia
because my mother was there for vacation with her family.I was named by my mother. My name is
not common in my country, but because it is an Arabic name, most people do not face difficulty in
pronouncing it and knowing it. In Arab countries also my name is not common, but it is known. In
Western countries and non-Arabic speakers, it is not known with the same meaning. In English, the
meaning of my name is the basil plant, and this is completely different from its Arabic meaning. In
Cyprus, here they do not pronounce my name completely correctly, but it is close to the correct
pronunciation. But this thing does not bother me, I understand the strangeness of my name to their
community. I love my name very much, and if they asked me to choose a name for myself, I would
choose it too, and I have no desire to change it. But if I was born as a girl, my name would be Bana. It
is also a beautiful and simple name.As for my nickname, there are many names, including Besso,
Besouli, and Baz. My mother, father and brothers used to call me by my name. But sometimes they
call me besouli . My friends in Sudan call me Basil or Biso, but here in Cyprus they call me Baz because
it is easier than Basil.

The name Basil has several meanings in Arabic, the most famous of which is the lion or the brave one.
The reason why my mother called me that name was because she wanted to name me Alaiham, but
because my grandmother could not pronounce it, so she changed it to Basil, because it has the same
meaning. She hopes that her newborn will be brave and not fear the world and its burdens.

Having a large family has helped me a lot throughout my life I have4 uncles and 1aunt . After
that, I had 15 cousins, most of whom were in the same age, so I always have cousins
wherever I go, including my former cousin.
