METBD 111

Auxiliary Views
Part Mode
1. Copy the part file Auxiliary-view-practice.prt located in the METBD 111 Pro-e sub-folder on the Pro_e
courseware datadisk (V:drive) to your P: drive. Rename the file to include your lastname and modify the
Modeled By parameters (Tools – Parameters…)
2. The part should be in millimeters. Check the units by selecting Edit – Setup – Units. If in inches,
select millimeter Newton Second [mmNs] – Set button – Interpret dimensions [for example 1”
becomes 1 mm] – OK – Close – Done.

Drawing Model
1. Create a detail drawing – you may decide on the file name.
a. Show top, front and right side views of the part.
b. Add the standard A size titleblock template. At this time we do not have a metric template, so use
the A_HORIZ_ENGLISH one.
c. Delete unnecessary view (right side).
d. Add a front-adjacent auxiliary view.
i. Click any where in the drawing area, but not inside a view. Select Insert – Drawing View –
Auxiliary – select edge
of, axis through, or Add missing
datum plane as, front centerlines.
surface on main view
– pick a location for
the center of the
auxiliary view.
Extend centerlines,
where necessary.

Add identification
Note with answer. (surface note)
Don’t forget the units!!

Type @[METRIC. It will

automatically add the box.
Locate it just above the titleblock
in the lower right corner.

e. Correctly display hidden lines, tangent lines, centerlines, dimensions, etc. Edit the spacing,
placement, etc., for dimensions. Edit length of centerlines where appropriate and add missing
centerlines. (Draw line(s). Select the line(s), right mouse click, select Line Style – change Attributes
to CTRLFONT and .001 – Apply – Close. You MUST select Apply button or the attributes will not
be changed.)
f. Hide the extraneous lines in the auxiliary view to make it a partial auxiliary view.
i. Unless otherwise indicated all auxiliary views will be displayed as partial views. (BEFORE you
do this step, you MUST make sure hidden lines are not displayed, or the lines will not
erase.) Click anywhere but inside a view – select View – Drawing Display – Edge Display
– Erase Line (use CTRL key to select multiple entities) – select lines to erase – OK – Done.

g. Add notes. (Insert – Note…
i. Identify the surface using a note. (Insert – Note – With Leader – … Make Note – On
Surface – Dot – select surface of auxiliary view where Dot is to be located – OK – Done
– type in not, etc.)
ii. The measurements are in millimeters. Add a leaderless note stating the drawing is in METRIC
– see instructions below on how to box the word METRIC.
h. Because the dimensions are in millimeters, set the decimal place to 0.
3. Find the area of the inclined plane.
a. Go back to the part file and use the analysis tool to find the area of the inclined plane shown in the
auxiliary view. Analysis – Measure – select Type: Area – click on the inclined plane. Add
Analysis to Model Tree by selecting the Add Feature button – type Surface_A – Enter key – Close.
b. Enter a note in the drawing file that will automatically update the area. To do this we need the
parameter name and/or ID number. An & must be placed in front of the parameter name, i.e., &area.
i. In the part file, the parameter Area must be listed in with the Part parameters. Check it out.
Select Tools – Parameters and read the Parameter names listed. Is Area listed? Edit the
Look In box to Feature and select Surface_A in the model tree. Is the parameter Area listed
here? Select OK.
ii. We will use relations to show the Feature parameter Area in the with the Part parameters.
Select Tools – Relations – type AREA_A = – select the Insert – From List – select Look
In: Feature in the new dialogue box – select Surface_A in the model tree – select Insert
Selected button. We now have the ID number for the area and the parameter name Area_A
should be listed with the other part parameters. Select OK. Check this by selecting Tools –
Parameters – Part. Is Area_A now listed? If so, go to the next step. If not, try again.
iii. In the drawing file create a note, placed on the left side of the drawing, just above the
titleblock, that reads NOTE: AREA OF SURFACE A = &AREA_A SQ. MM Don’t forget to set
the decimal place for the area to 0. (Format – Decimal Place, etc.)
4. Check the drawing, i.e., spacing between views, if you moved a view did you also move the centerlines
you drew in, etc.
5. Scale to fit (what you see, is what will print) and print the drawing file.
6. In the drawing file, edit the height of the object to 20 and regenerate. Did the area update? If not,
regenerate again. Now did it update?
7. Do NOT fix view placement, centerlines, etc. Just Print a new drawing file and show both printouts to
your instructor.
