deception Much Ado About Nothing shows
that deceit is not inherently evil,
but something that can be used
as a means to good or bad ends.
In the play, it is sometimes
difficult to distinguish between
good and bad deception.

Lessons about love, honour, reputation, deception and gender roles

People should be sure of the facts before they accuse people of something e.g. Claudio and Don
Pedro accusing Hero of being unfaithful. They should question the ones they love, rather than
believe strangers?

Men and women should be treated equally: Hero faces public humiliation, not the man she is
accused with. Claudio gets away with humiliating her, Men’s words are believed more than a
woman’s. We should continue to fight for gender equality so that these double standards are not
seen again.

Tricks that you play on others will backfire – Don John causes lots of chaos but he faces punishment.

Good friends have your best interest at heart – Hero, Ursula, Margaret, Don Pedro, Claudio, Leonato
an see that Benedick and Beatrice belong together.

Not all tricks are horrible – Beatrice and Benedick get together because of a trick

- Deception - (Communicating is important and to trusting the right person/close friends.)
