Work specialization or division of labour. It refers to an degree to which

an operations in an organization are broken into roles. Work
specialization is also practiced here which therefore increases efficiency
but there would be boredom.
Departmentation is another feature whereby jobs are grouped together
according to related functions into manageable units in order to achieve
company objectives in an effective manner.
Chain of command .Is a continuous line of authority that runs from the top of the organization to
the bottom, defining who reports to whom. Authority and unity of command are related to the
concept of chain of command. The right of a boss to issue orders and expect them to be followed
is referred to as authority.
Span of control the amount of employees that can be directed by a single manager. A narrow span
of control fosters a more intimate and hands-on work environment and manages only a small
number of employees. A wide span of control puts numerous employees under each manager,
assuming that daily tasks and processes are clearly defined. The optimal control span will vary
depending on the situation.
Centralization .Refers to decision-making concentrated at a single place in the organization. Top
management makes crucial decisions in a centralized structure with little or no involvement from
lower-level employees. A decentralized structure, on the other hand, allows lower-level
employees to provide input or even make choices.
Formalization. It aids the creation of processes, relationships, and operational procedures; which
outlines procedures, rules, and duties for individual employees, units, groups, teams, and the company
as a whole
Authority. It is the right to exercise power and right to command. This is the power management has
to exercise and make decisions in carrying out assignments. In other words, it is the ability to carry
out the tasks for, for example, it would not make sense asking an office worker to pay company debts
when she does not have authority to sign cheques.
Delegation. It is a process by which managers such as school heads, transfer part of their authority to
subordinates for the performance of certain tasks and responsibilities.

Part C

vi. The usefulness of the organizational structure

Organizational structures are important because they help businesses implement
efficient decision-making processes. By assigning specialized roles to lower-level
employees, businesses can make better decisions faster. It promotes motivation as the
subordinates will need to meet targets or goals. Organizational structure provides guidance
to all employees by laying out the official reporting relationships that govern the
workflow of the company. A formal outline of a company's structure makes it easier to
add new positions in the company, as well, providing a flexible and ready means for
growth.Structure will give employees more clarity, help manage expectations,
enable better decision-making and provide consistency. Organizational charts also
assign responsibility, organize workflow and make sure important tasks are completed
on time. Companies that grow rapidly are those that make the best use of their
resources, including management talent. A sound organization structure ensures that
the company has the right people in the right positions. The structure may suggest
weak spots or deficiencies in the company’s current management team .A well-
designed organization structure facilitates the completion of projects. Optimum use of
technological innovations: a sound organization structure is flexible to give adequate
scope for the improvement in technology. It facilitates introducing changes in the
enterprise by modifying the authority and responsibility relationship in the wake of new
development.
