Set The Stage
to Engage
It’s always fun to set the stage to engage your
students and get them excited for the activity. You
can dress up, decorate your room, or just turn off
the lights and use a few black lights to set the stage.
The more you are able to put into it, the more the
students will be excited about your lesson.

Some ideas of materials you can use to decorate

are linked below.

Set Up Directions
for Each Station Mummy Decimal Mix-Up
This game can be easily played with any bowling set you can find, or by
using 2-Liter bottles as bowling pins. To set up this game you will need to write
a variety of decimals on the pins, making sure that your decimals do not add up
to more than 100 but also don’t equal 100. You could use a label or piece of
tape on the pin to make it easier to read. You can adjust this game to the level
of your students by using decimals to the tenths, hundreds, thousandths or
even a variety.

I Know My Facts With My Eyes Closed

To prepare this game you will need a package of grapes and two shoebox
sized plastic containers. Pick all the grapes from the vine and then split them
up into the two containers. Cover them in olive oil and then cover the boxes
in construction paper with two holes in the top big enough to stick your hands
in. You’re ready to go!

Dissecting Generic Rectangles

Boil and prepare a box of spaghetti noodles and then mix them with red food
coloring until you get the coloring that you want. Then, write one, two, or
three digit numbers on the plastic critters. These could be spiders, worms, rats
etc. I used a paint sharpie and the paint did start to come off with the oil, so I
might suggest painting over the sharpie with clear nail polish to seal in the
writing. Finally, mix the spaghetti with the critters and let the kids dig in! You
may want to provide gloves for the students to use since it’s a little messy
with the dye.

Spider Strategy
There are some pre-made Spider Web games I found at Target, but you could
also easily make your own game. Simply find a spider web graphic or draw a
spider web. Then put numbers throughout the spider web such as 5, 10, 25, 50,
and 100. You will also need some sort of sticky spiders or critters that will
stick on the board. Kayla Dessert 2017
Set Up Directions
for Each Station
Ratio Recipe Mutant Bugs
To prepare this station you will just need to have the supplies to make the dancing bugs.
You will need clear cups, 7-Up and raisins. If you want to add some yellow food coloring to a
few glasses of the mixture to put on display you can increase the ”gross” factor. You could
even tell the kids you got them from a swamp or the sewer. When it comes time to make the
mixture for the kids to enjoy, you can just pour 7-Up into a cup and then add the raisins
and watch them dance. The bubbles in the carbonation attach to the raisins and make them
lighter, when they rise to the top and the bubbles pop, they sink back down.

Bean Boozled Headbandz

You will need to prepare notecards with math vocabulary words on them
that are applicable to what your class is currently learning. Ideas for words
that we used were factor, product, bar graph, Distributive Property, etc.
Students can then either just hold the cards up to their heads while their
partner describes the word, or you could purchase thin stretchy headbands and
they can wear them around their head and put the card inside. You will also
need to purchase a box of the “Bean Boozled” Jelly Belly's.

Dot Plot Ball Toss

I purchased a Halloween themed ball toss game at Target, but you could easily make your
own with jack-o-lantern buckets that kids use to trick-or-treat with and collect candy in. I
have recently seen them at Dollar Tree for $1 each. Put a number 1-6 on each bucket and
then find a few small balls for kids to toss in them. Set them up however you’d like and mark a
spot for the kids to stand behind when they toss the balls.

Comparing With Candy Corn

For this station you will just need to purchase a package of candy corn and make
copies of the “Comparing With Candy Corn” math sheets for students to use. I just made
enough copies for the amount of kids in each group and laminated them.

Mummy Decimal
Mix-Up
Every person will begin with 100 total points.

Each person gets one chance to roll the ball.

Record the decimals from the pins that are

knocked over by your roll and subtract those
from 100.

Once everyone has rolled once, everyone will

get another chance to do the same process.

After everyone has had two turns and has

subtracted their decimals, everyone will
compare their answers.

Each person should check the math of

another student.

The player with the lowest remaining number

is the winner, and gets 10 points.
Kayla Dessert 2017
I Know My Facts
With My Eyes
Closed
Split the group up into two teams.

Each team will chose one person to reach into the

tub of eyeballs and pick up a handful of eyeballs.

Without looking at the eyeballs or showing anyone,

they will pull their hand out.

The two players will count to three and then open

their hands.

The two players will then compete to see who can

multiply the two amounts of eyeballs first.

The first person to call out the product will earn one
point for their team.

If you are on the winning team at the end of the

rotation, you will earn 5 points.

Kayla Dessert 2017

Dissecting Generic
Rectangles
Each person will take a turn sticking their
hand into the brains and feeling around.

When you feel two creepy crawlers, pull

them out.

Look at the numbers on your two creepy

crawlers and multiply them together using a
generic rectangle on your record sheet.

The person who has shown all their work

and has the largest product will earn
5 points.

Kayla Dessert 2017

Spider
Strategy
Divide the group up into two teams.

Each team will get a chance to throw the

spider/critter at the web in alternating turns.

Before each person throws their

spider/critter, they must decide if they will add
the points to their team’s points, or subtract
them from the other team’s points.

Once they throw their spider/critter, have

them show their work, adding or subtracting,
from the previous total.

The goal is to have the largest total when the

time is up.

You must be strategic in this game!

Kayla Dessert 2017
Ratio Recipe
Mutant Bugs
In order to keep these mutant bugs happy,
they must live in a controlled environment.
If their environment is out of whack, they
will no longer dance, but instead die.

To keep the mutant bugs happy, you must

keep them at a specific ratio. That ratio is
½ cup of liquid for every 6 bugs.

Answer the question on your record sheet

to keep your bugs happy and you will get
to take some of your own!

Kayla Dessert 2017

Bean Boozled
Headbandz
Players will go head-to-head with another
student.

You will pick a math vocabulary word and put

it on your head. Your partner must describe
it to you in one minute.

If you can get the person to guess

correctly, you get to spin the Bean Boozled
wheel and you get a jelly bean.

If you get a jelly bean that is actually a good

flavor, you will win 5 points.

**You do not have to spin the wheel and eat

the jelly bean at this station if you do not
wish. If you answer the question correctly,
but choose not to spin the wheel you will win
just 1 point**
Kayla Dessert 2017
Dot Plot
Ball Toss
Each player will get to toss 10 total balls
into the pumpkin buckets.

You must stand behind the line and you

can’t reach your arm over the line
toward the buckets.

You will record which number bucket you

land in each time you toss.

After you have tossed 10 times, you will

create a dot plot to show your data.

Your teacher will award points based on

the completeness, accuracy, neatness
and labeling of your dot plot.

Kayla Dessert 2017

Comparing With
Candy Corn
Each student will play by themselves for this
game.

Each student will receive a set of numbers

and fractions to compare.

You will compare the numbers using candy

corn, much like a greater than or less than
symbol. > <

You be given a set amount of time to

complete this task.

When the time is up, all answers will be

checked by another student.

Any student that successfully gets them all

correct will receive 1 point.
