UREA REACTORS
• RELINING
We perform the addition of new linings on the corroded, existing ones or the removal of the existing
linings and their substitution with new plates. Both can be performed on 100% or on a part of the reactor
internal surface, depending on the time available. The job is normally carried out by introducing the
relining material from the manhole. In one instance a reactor was laid horizontal, cut into two parts,
relined, re-welded and reinstalled.

• SUBSTITUTION OF TRAYS AND/OR TRAY SUPPORTS


We supply spare trays on Snamprogetti, Stamicarbon or Urea Casale specification to substitute the
existing, corroded ones. We also perform the substitution of the tray supports to solve the safety problems
that may arise from partially penetrated support-to-lining welds and / or to improve the accessibility of the
supports to the periodical inspections.

• REPAIR OF LINING WELDS


Wherever the corrosion of the linings is still acceptable to the satisfaction of the plant owner / process
licensor, our specialized and skilled foremen and welders can carry out the repair of the corroded welds.
This activity is normally additional to one of the above.
SPECIFIC UREA-FIELD ACTIVITIES
UREA STRIPPERS
• OVERTURNING
Turning upside-down titanium strippers in Snamprogetti plants when erosion / corrosion hit significantly
the upper tube ends. This job includes the machining of the (former) lower tube ends to make it possible
to insert the ferrules.

• ADDITION OF ZIRCONIUM BUSHES


In all the cases when erosion / corrosion hits mostly the top portion of the titanium stripper tubes,
the life on the unit can be lengthened by machining such part and inserting a zirconium bush.

• ADDITION OF FERRULES ADAPTERS


We supply and install appositely-designed adapters to make it possible to switch from the externally-
inserted to the internally-inserted design in Snamprogetti strippers.

• SHORTENING
When erosion / corrosion has seriously attacked the lower part of the titanium stripper tubes or the upper
part of bimetallic tubes, the life of the unit can be extended by removing the eroded / corroded part and
shortening the whole unit.

• REPAIR OF WELDS
Our specialized and skilled technicians and welders can perform the site repair of all stripper welds,
including the tube-to-tubesheet joints.

We have internally developed and field-tested a procedure to repair internal bore welding
joints in waste heat boilers.

maintenance operations of reactor feed / reactor effluent breech lock heat exchangers in
