UAM Problems Worksheet with Solutions

This document appears to be a worksheet containing 5 problems related to uniformly accelerated motion in the horizontal dimension. The problems involve calculating distances and times given initial and final velocities and accelerations for objects like a motorcycle braking, a train accelerating, a feather falling on the moon, a car emergency braking, and an airplane accelerating down a runway. The worksheet includes spaces for the student to show their work and provide final answers.

Worksheet #3
Uniformly Accelerated Motion (UAM)-Horizontal Dimension

Direction: Solve the given problems systematically and completely then box your final
answer.

1. Jolo is riding his motorcycle at a velocity of 20 m/s, when he sees an old woman crossing
the road 40 m away. He immediately steps hard on the brakes to get the maximum
deceleration of 8.5 m/s2. How far will he hit the old woman?

2. A MRT train accelerates from 30 km/h to 45 km/h in 15 seconds. Find its

a. acceleration in m/s2 and
b. the distance it travels during this time in meter.

3. A feather is dropped on the moon from a height of 1.75 meters. The acceleration of gravity
on the moon is 1.67 m/s2. Determine the time for the feather to fall to the surface of the
moon.

4. An Uber driver travelling at 35 m/s tries to stop the car and finds that brakes have failed.
The emergency brake is then pulled, and the car comes to a stop in 80 m. Find the car’s
deceleration.

5. A PAL airplane from rest accelerates on a runway at 7.50 m/s2 for 15 seconds until it
finally takes off the ground. What is the distance covered before the take off?
