A body is said to have uniformly accelerated motion if it maintains a constant change in the velocity in
each time interval along a straight line.
Horizontal Dimension (Rectilinear)
Example: An airplane on a runway preparing for takeoff.
Vertical Dimension (free fall)
The pull of gravity acts on all objects. On Earth, when you throw something up, it will go down.
Things thrown upward always fall at a constant acceleration of which has a magnitude of 9.8m/s2
the velocity of an object in free fall changes by 9.8m/s2 every second fall.
Upward: 9.8m/s2
Downward: -9.8m/s2
Example: Motion of the stone thrown vertically upward.
A stone dropped from a hill.
UAM Formulae:
Vf =vi + at vf – final velocity
d =vit + ½ at2 vi – initial velocity
v2f =vi2 + 2ad a – acceleration
d= (vi + vf/2) t or d = vt t – time
d – distance
v – average speed/velocity
Uniformly Accelerated Motion
1. A car moving with constant acceleration. Acceleration=10 m/s
Sample problem:
1. An airplane from rest accelerates on a runway at 5.50m/s2 for 20.25s until it finally takes off the
ground. a. What is the distance covered before takeoff?
Given:
a= 5.50m/s2
t= 20.25s
vi= 0 m/s
d=?
formula: d =vit + ½ at2
Solution:
D= (0)(20.25s) + (0.5)(5.50m/s2)(20.25s)2
D= 0 +(2.75m/s2)(410.0625s2)
D= 1127.67 m
Activity: Problem solving. Write your answers in a whole sheet of paper. (5 pts) each.
1. A habal-habal motor bicycle from rest accelerates on a road at 6.5m/s2 for 25 seconds until it
passes Aling Lucing Bakery. What is the distance covered when the habal habal motor bicycle
reaches Aling Lucing Bakery?
2. A jeepney from rest accelerates on a road at 10m/s2 for 15 seconds. Determine the distance
covered of the jeepney.
