ONE-DIMENSIONAL KINEMATICS
Activity 1
1. Bob rides his bicycle on a bike path that is 75 kilometers long to get
to his house that is due east of the bike path. If it takes Bob 15
hours then:
a. What is his speed?
d
s= t
75 km
s= 15 h
s=5km/h
b. What is his velocity?
∆x
v= t
75 km
v= 15 h
v=5km/h (due east)

2. . Jessica jogs on a path that is 15 kilometers long to get to a park that

is south of the jogging path and another 10 km north before she take a
rest. If it takes Jessica 2.5 hours then
a. What is her speed?
d 15 km
S= t S= 2.5 h = 6km/h
b. What is her velocity?
∆x
v= t
15 km
v= 2.5
v= 6km/h (due north)
3. A driver starts his parked car and within 5 seconds reaches a speed
of 60 km/h, as he travels east. What is his acceleration?
v f = 60km/h ; vi = 0 ; ∆ t =5s

∆ v= 60km/h - 0
∆ v =60km/h or 16.67m/s

∆v 16.67 m/s
∂= ∂=
∆t 5s

∂= 3.33m/s/s 3.33m/s2

4. In a summer storm, the wind is blowing with a velocity of 8 m/s

north. Suddenly in 3 seconds, the wind’s velocity is 23 m/s north.
What is the wind’s acceleration?
v f = 23m/s ; vi =8 m/s ; ∆ t =3s
∆ v =23m/s – 8m/s∆ v =15m/s

∆v 15 m/ s
∂= ∂=

1. What is the average velocity of the object?

∆x
v= ∆t
180−0 180 m
v= 10−0 10 s
v=18m/s

2.What is the acceleration of the object between t = 2 s to t

= 6 s?
10 m 60 m
vi= 2 s vf= 6 s
vi= 5m/s vf= 10m/s

∆ v =10 m/s−5 m/s ∆ t = 6 s−2 s

∆ v =5m/s ∆ t =4s

a=1.25 m/s
3. Does the graph show the object is moving with varying or constant
speed?
-The graph shows that the object is moving with varying speed.
4. Based on your graph, is the object’s acceleration is constant,
decelerating, or accelerating? Why?
-The object is accelerating, because at the graph, it shows that the
object is moving upward with a varying speed.

Activty 3

1. An airplane accelerated uniformly from rest at the rate of 6.25 m/s 2

south for 15 s. What final velocity did it attain?
vi = 0 m/s ; a = 6.25m/s ; t=15 s

vf = vi + at
v f =0 m/s +(6.25 m/ s2 )(15 s)
v f =93.75m/s

2. John is driving his sports car down a four-lane highway at 60 m/s. He

Reflection
If speedometers and odometers were not invented, what do you think
is its impact to our road traffic today?
-There are more accident happening throughout the planet. And
also they cannot see if they are overspeeding or not. Traffic sign also
are usless because they cannot see what is wrong in their speed. Also
the vehicle is not very appealing without the speedometer.
