Overview

What is Veritas AutoSupport for Appliances?


A services framework that provides automated support services to its appliance
customers. This includes:
• 24x7 hardware monitoring
• Automated hardware support ticket creation and guided issue resolution
• Call Home Services Center staffed globally 24x7
• Customer self-services using the MyAppliances portal

What NetBackup Appliances are covered by the AutoSupport system?


The Veritas AutoSupport system covers the following NetBackup Appliance solutions:
• NetBackup 5200 series appliances
• NetBackup 5300 series appliances
• NetBackup Virtual Appliances (limited monitoring)
Note: other Veritas Appliances are also covered by AutoSupport, such as the Access
3400 series appliances and Flex 5300 series appliances.

Monitored components

How do customers enroll their appliances in the AutoSupport system?


Step 1: enable Call Home on the appliance(s):
• Call Home is enabled using the appliance shell menu
• Main > Settings > Alerts > CallHome Enable
Step 2: register the appliance(s) at the MyAppliances portal
• MyAppliances site

Leverage Veritas AutoSupport System


• Veritas recommends customers enable Call Home and register their Appliances with Veritas
• This enables AutoSupport and automated hardware monitoring/alerting and guided issue resolution
processes

• For customers that do not want to enable Call Home, direct troubleshooting of appliances is possible

Parts replacement

Hardware Component Replacement


• If an appliance part needs to be replaced, it falls into one of two categories: FRU or CRU
• Field Replaceable Unit (FRU) – component is replaced by Veritas service provider
• Customer Replaceable Unit (CRU) – component can be replaced by customer
