Abstract

The invention of new solar power technologies is seen as one of the panaceas to all the
problems related to world’s rising demand for energy. Also, solar energy is one of the most
ubiquitous and widely available resource among renewable energy sources. India’s massive
renewable energy target of 175GW by 2022 requires a strategic roadmap, clear planning with
integrated systems and a holistic system approach. Despite the rapid expansion in the field of
solar technology, several technical barriers such as lack of finances, shortage of skilled
labours, solar cell efficiencies, etc hinders the full potential of solar technology in India. To
understand the overall production of solar energy in India, we have focused on the existing
technologies like PV (photovoltaics) cell production and other technologies mentioned in
various research papers. Following a general introduction, this review provides a more
holistic approach of current knowledge on solar energy growth in India as well as scientific
and technological developments. Significant attention has been placed to determine the
possible effects of covid-19 on Solar energy capacity and its installation. In addition, this
article focuses on both the merits and demerits of solar energy systems. Furthermore, we also
discussed about the difficulties posed by transitions and cloud augmentation on smaller and
bigger PV installations on the solar power adjusted grid-system. A variety of technical issues
influencing renewable energy research is mentioned, as well as beneficial frameworks given
by the Government of India are also discussed in this article. This review also provides the
most updated status of the solar energy production in India in 2022 combined with
comprehensive information on available solar technologies, growth potential, future prospect,
and the requirement for solar waste recycling industry in India is also discussed in this
review.

Key Words: solar power, future prospect, energy.
