◊ Adjective Function (หน้ าที่ของคำคุณศัพท์)

คําคุณศัพท์ภาษาอังกฤษ หรื อภาษาไทยก็ดี จะทำหน้ าที่ขยายคำนาม คือ คน สัตว์ สิ่งของ สถานที่ เพื่อบอกให้ รูวา่ มีลกั ษณะเป็ นเช่นไร เช่น
สูง ต่ำ ดำ ขาว เป็ นต้ น ซึง่ เป็ นการอธิบายขยายความเพิ่มเติมเพื่อนให้ เห็นภาพที่ชดั เจนขึ ้นนัน่ เอง เช่น
The boy is small.

A cat is black and white.

The big car is expensive.

The flower smells good.

◊ Adjective Position (ตำแหน่งของคำคุณศัพท์)

ตำแหน่งของคํา adjective กันบ้ าง ตำแหน่งของ adjective จะวางอยู่ 3 ตำแหน่งหลักๆดังนี ้

1. หน้ าคำนาม

2. หลัง Verb to be
3.หลัง Linking verb

» Adjective วางหน้ าคำนาม

คำคุณศัพท์วางหน้ าคำนามที่มนั ขยาย เช่น
he black dog is running.

The small boy is playing football.

The beautiful girl is in the room.

I can’t see the green bird.

She likes the pink dress.

» Adjective ตามหลัง Verb to be

คำคุณศัพท์วางไว้ หลัง verb to be (be, is, am, are, was, were, been) เช่น
It will be good for you.

I am smart.

The girl is lovely.

We are strong.

» Adjective ตามหลัง Linking verb

คำคุณศัพท์วางไว้ หลัง Linking verb เช่น
You look good today.

That sounds nice.

The flower smells good.

My dream came true.

I feel sorry for that boy.

Type of adjective :

1. Opinion: Ugly, beautiful, quiet, right, delicious, wonderful, terrible

2. Size: Short, big, small, huge, tiny, miniscule, large

3. Shape: Round, square, triangular, circular, octagonal

4. Condition or state: Wet, rich, intelligent, surprised, hungry, empty

5. Age: Old, young, ancient, antique, teenage

6. Color: Yellow, reddish, mauve, beige, blue-green, off-white

7. Pattern: Striped, polka dotted, checked, plaid

8. Origin/Nationality: Southern, French, Korean, Saudi, African, Asian

9. Material: Cloth, metal, paper, aluminum

10. Purpose: Shopping, drinking, dining

OP = Opinion แปลว่า ความเห็น เช่น สวย น่าเกลียด แย่ เยี่ยม

A = Age แปลว่า อายุ เช่น แก่ หนมุ่ ใหม่ เก่า

S = Shape แปลว่า รูปร่าง เช่น กลม เหลี่ยม

O = Origin แปลว่า แหล่งกำเนิด หรื อถิ่นกำเนิด เช่น ไทย อังกฤษ จีน

M = Material แปลว่า วัสดุ เช่น เหล็ก ไม้ ทอง หิน

P = Purpose แปลว่า วัตถุประสงค์ เช่น สำหรับทำความสะอาด สำหรับเดิน สำหรับทำอาหาร
