NOLI ME TANGERE

"NoliMe Tangere" is a
novel written by Filipino
polymath José Rizal,
written in Spanish, and
published in 1887, which
details the situation of the
Philippines during the
Spanish colonization. It
is considered the most
important literary work
of the Philippines and
one of the most important
works of Asian literature.
The novel exposed the
injustices, abuse, and
corruption of the Spanish
colonizers, as well as the
harsh conditions faced by
the Filipino people. It also
dealt with the social and
political issues of the
Philippines during that
time. The novel is notable
for its vivid portrayal of
Philippine society during
the Spanish colonization,
and its strong criticism of
the Catholic Church and
the Spanish government.
The title is Latin for
"Touch Me Not", and
alludes to John 20:17,
where Jesus tells Mary
Magdalene not to touch
him after his resurrection.
