EXAMPLE OF GRAMMAR QUESTION
So, can you guess what
is the answer?
The Correct Answer is...
Discussion

The first question asks about the pronoun it. The pronoun “it” is personal pronoun.
You can answer this question by looking at the noun that the pronoun could refer to.
The possible answers are scientific reason and chilling your cookie dough. Then, you
need to understand the context. The previous sentence is talking about chilling the
cookie dough. Try to replace the pronoun to check which one is correct from the
possible answers. The answer for scientific reason is the information related to chilling
cookie dough. Therefore, the correct answer is B.
Discussion

The second question asks the pronoun “its”. You can indicate that “its” is a
possessive pronoun. To answer this question, take a look to the nouns in the previous
sentence. There are several nouns that can become the possible answer: the fats, the
dough, the butter, and the oven. It is stated “its perfect texture”, the phrase perfect
texture is describing the pronoun. Therefore, the correct answer is A.
Discussion

The third question, dealing with transition, asks about another advantage of chilling your
dough besides solidify the fats and making it dry out a bit. To answer this question, you can do
a quick skimming to find the transition as the clue to answer the question. One of the
advantages is solidifying the fats so it won’t make the dough expand rapidly. Another
advantage is preventing the dough spread by drying out the dough a bit. The transition marker
‘In addition’ (line 9) means that two sentences is connected and continual. Therefore, the
correct answer is A.
