The team's combined skills, knowledge, attitudes, and effort can help to guarantee safe

and efficient nutritional care. Members of the team also learn about the contributions of
their fellow teammates and how to assign tasks to the team members who are most
qualified for them. It's important to remember that the client is a crucial team member.
The following are the duties that various healthcare professionals have when managing a
patient's nutritional needs. The list is not meant to be comprehensive.

Foods are products made from plants or animals that can be ingested to provide the
body with nutrients for life support, tissue growth, and repair. Nutrition is the study of
food, including the nutrients and other ingredients, and how these act, interact, and are
balanced in relation to health and disease. It is also the study of how an organism takes
in, digests, absorbs, transports, uses, and excretes food components. Simply put,
nutrition is the study of how to properly nourish the body or how to analyze how food
affects living things.

The body uses nutrients, which are substances obtained from food, to produce energy,
provide structural support, and control the growth, upkeep, and repair of body tissue.
Carbohydrates, protein, vitamins, minerals, fats, and water are among them.
Macronutrients, which include carbohydrates, proteins, and fats, are nutrients that the
body requires in large quantities. They make up the majority of the diet and provide the
body with all the energy it requires. Micronutrients are nutrients that the body needs in
tiny amounts for a number of processes and functions. They contain minerals and
vitamins.

Essential nutrients are those that the body cannot produce or synthesize in sufficient
quantities to meet the body's physiological needs, so they must be obtained from food.
Malnutrition is any condition brought on by an excess or deficiency of energy or
nutrients, or by an imbalance of nutrients. Nutritional status is the term used to describe
the state of health of an individual as influenced by the intake and utilization of nutrients.
Under nutrition-Under nutrition refers to a lack of energy or nutrients. Good/normal
nutrition-Good/normal nutrition refers to a sufficient nutrient intake that provides the
highest level of wellness.

An excessive intake of energy or other nutrients is referred to as overnutrition. Energy is

the ability to perform tasks. Chemical energy makes up the energy in food. This chemical
energy can be transformed by the body into mechanical, electrical, or thermal energy.
Carbohydrate, Fat, and Protein Calorie – This is a unit by which energy is measured.
Energy-Yielding Nutrients – These nutrients are broken down to yield energy the body
can use. Kilocalories are the unit of food energy (1 kilocalorie is equal to 1000 calories).
One kilogram of water needs one calorie of heat to warm it to 10 degrees Celsius. The
term "health" refers to a state of total physical, mental, and social well-being, not just the
absence of disease.
