Poverty

Poverty cannot be neglected when it comes on economic crises. It is like a cycle that
revolves around economic crises i.e born due to economic crises and also kept power
to impact economic crises.
Overcoming poverty is not a Gesture of Charity. Its an act of Justice.it’s the

Protection of Fundamental Right, The Right to Dignity and Decent Life.

In 2023, Pakistan's poverty rate was 37.2%. This is slightly lower than the 39.8%
poverty rate of 2018, but when we consider population growth, it is still quite high.
3 million more poor people.
International poverty index ranks Pakistan 92nd out of 116 countries.
Historically, rural areas in Pakistan have had a higher poverty rate than urban areas.
Reason of poverty:
drastic decline in economic activities; floods of 2022, currency devaluation, fuel
prices, and political instability are affecting economic activities.
1. Due to worst political condition of country, the investors are not comfortable in
investing their money in Pakistan.
2. Due to high rate of unemployment, the poverty is screaming throughout the
country. In 2020 it is 4.3%
3. lack of human right. People lacking with self-respect, consider begging an easy
source of earning then work hard for their livelihood.
4. Pakistan is a home to large feudal landlord system where landlords own land
and these lands are cultivated by poor labour and proit is enjoyed by landlords
5. shortage of dollar in money market, foreign reserves has reached their lowest
level and dollar is selling in black market
6. Gender discrimination , in Pakistan the place of women is at home and men are
meant to work outside. If women are also allow to work and earn then there will be a
chances of reducing poverty.
What will be the future of poverty
Indications has assumed that Pakistan economy is on ventilator, if proper measure
has not taken then country will face severe damages and recovery from them would
be really difficult. One of the major of worst economic condition is often Political
Mafias, that are found involve in supporting irregularities in wheat, dollar, urea in
black market. Pakistan is advised to develop a system to control inflation because
inflation has affecting food securities from last few years.
CHILD LABOR
Child labor come in existence only due to economic crises. If there is no issue
then the country will surely not needed it little hand to work.
The main reason of child labor is Poverty, because when the elders won’t able to
fulfill basic need than these tiny, innocents have to come out of their protecting
shells to rescue their families.

Always right in front of you BUT WHY constantly hidden from


your view?
You see his small delicate hand making tea in front of your bus stand,
bringing you an ironed clothes even at your place sweeping some corner
of your home. His name is IMRAN ALI but he got labourized as
“Chotu”. These small hands are meant to hold books. They are meant to
enjoy their childhood. These small little hands and mind are not meant to
work hard and worry for the livelihood of their families.

Pakistan is an example of nation plagued by child labor. more than 12.5


million children in Pakistan are trapped in the clutches of exploitation and
abuse of child labor. Neglected by society, these innocent faces are
struggling for survival.
Some dishearten fact about child labor:
 Child labor in Pakistan is perhaps most common in the city of Multan, which is an
important production center for export goods.
 In Sindh Province, 21.5 percent of children ages 5 to 14 are working. This type of
forced child labor in Pakistan happens in Brick, carpet and coal industry.

 Pakistan still has the worst form of child labor which includes hazardous work that
can damage children’s health , or worse, put their lives at risk.

 (United Nations Children’s Fund) believes that children aged 4 to 14 makes up to


90% of labor force of carpet industry. Workshop owners manipulate parents into
believing that their children will learn new skills that outweigh any knowledge gained
at school.

 According to UNICEF, Pakistan has the world’s second-highest number of children


who do not attend school.
  Due to the prevalence of poverty, approximately 90 percent of the 170,000 street
children in Pakistan work in the sex trade, an extreme form of child labor

Situation of child labor;


Many children in Pakistan must work in order to pay off their familial debt or contribute to the
familial monthly expenses, but the main cause for concern is that even after many
advancements in 2018, the worst form of child labor still exists.
The government of Pakistan had taken number of measures to reduce child labor.
There measure contain several acts and laws:

 The Factories Act 1934


 The West Pakistan Shops and Establishments Ordinance 1969
 The Employment of Children Act 1991

Child labor remains one of the major problems afflicting Pakistan and its children.
Pakistan has passed laws in an attempt to limit child labor, but those laws are universally
ignored.
