US Staffing Terminology
I-9 form - The Employment Eligibility Verification Form I-9 is a U.S. Citizenship and Immigration
Services form. It is used by an employer to verify an employee's identity and to establish that
the worker is eligible to accept employment in the United States
E-Verification - The E-Verify program is a web-based system operated by the U.S. Department
of Homeland Security in partnership with the Social Security Administration that allows
participating employers to electronically verify the employment authorization of newly hired
employees.
LCA - Labor condition application (LCA), Form ETA 9035/9035E is a document that a prospective
H-1B employer files with ETA when it seeks to employ nonimmigrant workers at a specific job
occupation in an area of intended employment for not more than three years.
USCIS - United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is a component of the United
States Department of Homeland Security (DHS). It performs many administrative functions
formerly carried out by the former United States Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS),
which was part of the Department of Justice.
