HOW WE CAN DEFINE DEMOCRACY?
Democracy is a government of majority elected by people in which
authorities are also divided in people. We can say that the democracy is
the rule of majority elected by majority of people through the elections
and the government officials work for the betterment of the country.
Democracy provides chance to everyone who performs well to carry on
his good work.

As Albert Einstein said:

“My political ideal is democracy. Let every man be
respected as an individual and no man idolized.”

Democracy has four pillars:

I_ Legislature
2_ Executive
3_ Judiciary
4_ Media.

We can define all these four pillars briefly here as the legislature is the
legislative body of the country or state. Legislature basically who forms the laws
for the country or state. Executive is the second pillar which makes others to
abide by the law if they do not abide by the law. Judiciary is third pillar and its
job is to decide the state affairs in courts through judges. Media is the last pillar
of the democracy and according to the todays’ environment we can say that it is the
most powerful pillar. It can do something extremely good with it soothing and
healing effects and it can destroy everything with its devastating characteristics.
Shri Naidu said something relating and instructive to these four pillars of
democracy.

Shri Naidu said that:

“Each pillar must act within its domain but not lose sight of the larger
picture. The strength of a democracy depends upon the strength of each pillar and
the way pillars complement each other”

IQBAL’S VIEW ON DEMOCRACY

Iqbal has different view for democracy. He said that democracy must be in
the manners of ISLAM. There must not be anything which is getting out of the
circle of ISLAM.
There are two different aspects of democracy that he explained
1_ the one He saw in west
2_ one He wants to be in east.
Iqbal always opposed things which are more related to secularism and then things
are deprived of ISLAM. For example, bribes are completely forbidden is ISLAM
so He also desires for the democracy cleaned off bribes.

Characteristics of Democracy in IQBAL’s view

1_ Ethical element.
2_ Bridled or Unbridled Democracy.
3_ Conflict of ambitions.
4_ Secularism
Iqbal’s view on democracy was very simple and easy to define. He simply said
things in the comparison of western culture and ISLAMIC view point. Very first
point is Ethical Value as it is also different in both sides. Ethical values are very
different as ISLAM taught us the high morals and the western culture is not good
as the ISLAM. So ethical elements also cause some damages in different societies.
In ISLAM everything is allowed to the extent of its limit. Nothing exceeds the
limit here and in western culture wisdom is the only n key to decide when and
how to do a thing. It will be totally wrong to say that there is no guidance. There is
guidance but not as good as it is here. They have to depend on their selves more.
Western democracy is unbridled and the one he wanted to be adopted here is
bridled as it is described in the ethical values. As less guidance of religion in
west there is conflict of ambitions. So, there can something which is poor can
happen as less ethical values and unbridled democracy. They are more focused on
secularism So it decreases the ethical values and on the low levels of moral
anything can happen. As now we can see that the foresight of IQBAL’s view on
democracy as all these four characteristics are so deeply interrelated and If
anything goes over the limit it will be devastating. So, this was the all IQBAL ever
wanted that we must not adopt this type of democracy. ISLAM puts everything in
the limits so nothing goes out of control.

DIFFERENC BETWEEN WESTERN AND EASTERN

DEMOCRACY IN IQBAL’S VIEW

1_ The main difference between the western and eastern democracy is the
limitation.
2_Iqbal always wanted to establish a democracy which is based on Islamic
laws nothing out of this circle. As he saw so many aspects in west which were
bringing the democracy to its worst form. Main factor was secularism. They were
and they are still blind in their worldly process so they don’t care what is going to
happen in near future
