Task 1 – “It matters to this one”

We must not underestimate our ability to touch someone's life, change someone's mind for the
better, or make a positive impact on a situation. Even what appears to be a symbolic act has the
power to inspire others to act and to have a long-term impact on the lives of others. There is a
tendency to see or value only that which generates the most externally. However, deeper results can
be achieved - results that are not as visible on the outside but are deeply significant and long-lasting
on the inside.
People we haven't heard from in weeks, months, years, or even more than ten years have
gotten in touch with us. But as we grow to understand, people who have reached out to us have
experienced far more than what seemed to us to be a momentary impact. They serve as a reminder
that we actually did have an impact on their lives and that they felt that we cared about them as a
result. We frequently underestimate the value of our time, listening ear, and attention to other
people's circumstances when we reach out to them.

Task 2- The five models of disability


A. The Moral/Religious Model
The moral model of disability refers to the attitude that people are morally responsible for their
own disability. For example, the disability may be seen as a result of bad actions of parents if
congenital, or as a result of practicing witchcraft if not.
B. The Biomedical/ Individual Model
The biomedical model of health is the most dominant in the western world and focuses on
health purely in terms of biological factors. Contained within the biomedical model of health is a
medical model of disability. In a similar vein, this focuses on disability purely in terms of the
impairment that it gives the individual. 
C. The Functional/Rehabilitition Model
The functional or rehabilitation model is quite similar to the biomedical model in that it sees the
PWD as having impairment or deficits. Disability is caused by physical, medical or cognitive
deficits. The disability itself limits a person’s functioning or the ability to perform functional
activities.These deficits then justify the need to undergo rehabilitative intervention like
the
therapies, counseling and the like in the aim of reintegrating that is able into society.
The functional or rehabilitation model is quite similar to the biomedical model in that it sees the

D. The Social Model

The social model of disability sees the issue of "disability" as a socially created problem and a
matter of the full integration of individuals into society. In this model, disability is not an attribute of an
individual, but rather a complex collection of conditions, many of which are created by the social
environment. Hence, the management of the problem requires social action and is the collective
responsibility of society at large to make the environmental modifications necessary for the full
participation of people with disabilities in all areas of social life.
E. Rights-Based Model and Twin Track Approach

Rights-Based Model emphasizes the human dignity of PWDs. All learners' have the right
to education. Twin track Approach is a combination of social model and rihts-based model. Allowing
PWDs to participate in a mainstream of education with additional support needed.
Task 3 – Additional of Philippines Law for PSWD
The recognition of PWDs is stated in the 1987 Philippine Constitution. Article XIII, Section 13 states
that "[t]he State shall establish a special agency for disabled person for their rehabilitation, self-
development, and self-reliance, and their integration into the mainstream of society." The established
agency was named the National Council on Disability Affairs or NCDA. Some of the laws concerning
PWDs include Republic Act No 7277 (Magna Carta for Disabled Persons), Batas Pambansa Blg. 344
(Accessibility Law), Republic Act 6759 (White Cane Act) and ILO Convention No. 159 (Vocational
Rehabilitation of Persons With Disability). [7]
Republic Act No. 7277
This law, the Magna Carta for Disabled Persons, is "an act providing for the rehabilitation, self-
development and self-reliance of disabled persons and their integration into the mainstream of society
and for other purposes." It outlines the rights and privileges of disabled persons and the prohibition on
discrimination of PWDs. It was ratified on March 24, 1992.
Batas Pambansa Blg. 344
The Accessibility Law is an act enhancing the mobility of disabled persons that requires buildings,
institutions, establishments, and public utilities to install some facilities and other devices. This law
requires the installation of sidewalks, ramps, and railings for the PWDs in public spaces. It was
ratified on December 7, 1982.[9]
Republic Act 6759
The White Cane Act declares August 1 of every year as White Cane Safety Day in recognition of the
visually impaired PWDs' need for assistance and as a reminder for the public of their duty to care for
and respect them. The act was ratified on September 18, 1989.
Republic Act No. 10754
The Republic Act No. 10754 is an expansion of the benefits and privileges of PWDs in the Philippines
as an amendment to the Magna Carta for Disabled Persons. It highlights the basic and societal
benefits and privileges of PWDs. It was signed on December 1, 2016.

Task 5 – The Life Story of Manuel and Julian

Manuel had difficulties within himself and displayed an extreme behavior. And early at his age, his own parent
already concluded that Manuel can be able to have a hard time to catch up with his developmental concerns, and
some of his relative also have this idea that he was deaf.
He also has mental retardation as an effect of his life experiences. Some people view his disability as a cursed.
And how other people treated him brings a wide impact in how he lives his life without hesitation and problem.

Julian also manifested extreme behaviors and he actually have some intellectual problem. But with all this, he
able to stand up, as he undergoes different treatment and therapy that serves as an alternative medication on his
disability. The people around him were good to him, especially his teacher Jan, that makes hm more confident
and boost his courage to achieve more and not felt that he was different from another.
