Narrative Report on the Implementation of the
Gold-Digging Reading Program (Junior High School)

Under the division Gold Strategic Direction Number 3: Learners at the

Heart of the Region, is the beacon that guides our effort and resources in
investing towards the reading skills of our learners in congruence with the
premise that reading is the primary key that opens doors of opportunities of
learning towards a better life.

With this challenge, the Gold-Digging Reading Program, reading package,

anchored on the Fuller Approach in Teaching Reading, developed by a team of
reading experts, seeks to address the problem of struggling readers at the
junior high school level through a user-friendly reading tool structured through
scaffolding of the basic word families.

With the struggling readers at the heart of this project strengthened by

the division city’s commitment, this reading package might hold these learners’
redemption from struggling readers to independent readers.

In the pre-implementation stage reading coordinators were ask to

capacitate school reading coordinators, followed by re-echoing and presentation
of action plan to the school heads and co-teachers, then tapping the Barangay
Council and stakeholders, next is identification and capacitating of reading
volunteers and lastly, planning for the proper implementation – to produce
learning materials and Instructional Materials for the struggling readers. It was
not then implemented fully because it is almost the end o the school year, so, I
as the reading coordinator decided to implement the reading program on the
next school year 2021-2022.

In line with the Brigada Eskwela 2021, in this present school year the
Brigada Eswkela 2021 with the theme “Bayanihan para sa Paaralan”, the
implementation stage of the reading program was launched, on the same day of
the GOLD-Digging Reading Program teachers were ask to conduct a pre-test to
their learners. Afterwards, we are able to identify our reading clientele, for the
Junior High School, there are 15 reading clientele that are going to undergo the
reading program. On the 2nd day up unto the 21st day of the reading program,
the reading volunteer always start his lesson with the re-orientation of the
alphabet sounds then followed by the lesson of the day which is under the Fuller
Approach Reading Package. At the last day, the reading clientele are given a
post test to measure if the reading program is effective or not. It turns out,
the reading program is effective for majority of the students the remaining are
given additional reading materials for them to master.
