Close the end of each vane with heat resistant tepe as soon as filled. (5) Foam and cure the rubber stiffener as follows: a, Place the case assembly in an air circulating oven equipped with an exhaust fan and ducted to the outside atmosphere. WARNING Heating the rubber pellets creates a highiy poisonous gas called Tetra-Methyi-Succino-Nitrol (T.S.N) which is mostly retained in the rubber filling. Extrene care mst be used at all times when heating the rubber. Proper protective equipment must be worn and adequate ventilation provided when heat is applied to the rubber during the foaming, curing, or at any time thereafter. b. Heat the oven to 175° = 275°F (79° = 135°C) end foam the rubber for one hour, ¢. Increase the temperature of the oven to 340° -360°F (171° = 182°C) and cure for one hour. © a, Remove the case assembly from the aven and immediately remove the heat resistant tape. Atr cool the case assembly sufftctently to handle, then trim the excess foam rubber from the vanes. €+ Install Silicone Rubber Stiffener Strips, Part No. 149139, around the I.D, of the faner shroud of the case assembly, as shoun in Figure 1, NOTE To Eactlitate installation of the silicone rubber strips and avoid excessive trimming after the strips ere cured, It may prove advantageous to trim a small amount of rudder from the point of the Von the white side of the strip. 4 small rollet facilitates attaching and moulding strips. Sufficient pressure should be applied to the roller to mold the strip to the appropriate height slown in Figure 1, Extra pressure should be applied with the fingers at each location where the strip bridges the vane end. £, Place the case fm the oven, heat to 340° - 360°F (171° ~ 182°C) and cure for two hours. g- Remove from oven, air cool and then trim rubber strips to the May 28/64 72 vege bof 7 8 Pratt & Whitney Arca, ———— NO. 775 Engine ~ case assembly fan exit, rubber filled vane core passages Tncorporation 6 2._Accomplisiment Instructions A. at overhaul, rework Fan Exit Case Assembly, Part No. 500870, prior to change letter D, as follows: (2) Remove the silicone rubber damping strips fron the inner shroud of the case assembly. (2) Clean the surfaces of the inner shroud. OTE The silicon rubber strip material which may adhere to the case assembly may be cleaned from the inner shroud with aleohol. (3) Degrease the case assembly. (4) Position the case assembly in a verticel position on a suitable rotary type fixture and £111 each vane cavity with foam rubber stiffener, as follows: OTE Tho Rubber Stiffener, Part No. 313786 (H.S.D. Part No. 303046), is highly perishable material and wust be stored under controlled conditions. Paragraph A.(6) of che bulletin ists the specific storage conditions. a. Part No, 303046), and shelf Life limit. a. The material has a critical life and must be kept under refrigeration, The following conditions determine the shelf Life: 1, If stored at temperatures below -40°F (-40°C) material has a shelf Life of efght months. 2, If stored at temperatures -40°F (-40°C) to 45°F (7°C) watertal has @ shelf life of six months. |. At 75°F (2459), room temperature, the material has a shelf Life of three deys. If the material becomes tacky during the three day perfod the rubber pellets may be placed in refrigeration at 45°F (7°C) or lower until firm enough to use.
