Given the nonlinear electrical network shown above, find the transfer function relating the output
nonlinear resistor voltage Vr  s  , to the input source voltage V(s). Hint: Linearize the resistor
equation.

Given the system shown above, find the damping D, to yield a 30% overshoot in output angular
displacement for a step input in torque.

3. Consider the cart pendulum system with the pendulum hanging down (you can think of this as the
problem of moving the cart without exciting the pendulum too much; is similar to walking without sloshing
your coffee) The dynamics describe how the position of the cart depends on the applied force is given by
the transfer function

In this problem, you will only consider the dominant poles (close to the origin) (2nd-order system response
characteristics).
Find the settling time, maximum overshoot, and rise time to a step input force, as also the natural frequency
and damping ratio, respectively.
