Subject Title
Comprehensive Financial Planning

Subject Description
Students will synthesize the technical knowledge they have learned in the other financial planning courses contained within the
Financial Planning (FIP) program. Students will cultivate skills that align with The FP Canada Standards Council Financial Planning
Practice Standards.

Credit Status
One credit.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject the student will be able to:

 Engage an individual in the discovery process to collect and prepare the information required to assess an individual’s
situation.
 Assess an individual’s situation in support of identifying and evaluating appropriate strategies.
 Evaluate appropriate strategies in support of developing recommendations to optimize an individual’s situation.
 Prepare a comprehensive financial plan for an individual using financial planning software.
 Present financial planning recommendations to an individual in an effective way that motivates the individual to enact
the recommendations.

Policy on Missed Tests/Presentations and Late Assignments

Dates for tests, quizzes, exams, presentations etc. have been pre-arranged and are non-negotiable. Unless a valid medical note
or authenticated letter attesting to a valid reason for an absence is provided, a grade of zero will be assigned on any missed
evaluation. Note that there are no make-up quizzes or assignments; if a valid documented reason is provided, the weight of the
missed evaluation will be distributed across your course work.

Assignments and quizzes must be submitted by the specified date. Late submission of assignments will be subject to a penalty of
ten percent (10%) per day and will not be accepted beyond TWO (2) business days after the assignment due date. late
assignments will not be accepted, under any circumstance once the graded assignments have been returned to the class. It is
the responsibility of the student to ensure that a copy of all assignments is kept.
 
In the case of acceptable extenuating circumstance, your professor may grant an extension to a due date, but such extension
requests must be discussed prior to the assignment due date.
 
English Competency

The ability to communicate effectively is essential for success in business. Therefore, you must demonstrate English competency
in this subject in both oral and written work. Strive to be clear and concise. Ensure your written work is consistent with the rules
of English grammar, especially in sentence structure, spelling, and punctuation. Always spell check, edit, and proofread your

Course activities
This section explains what the expectation of you are, to complete FIP508:

Class Structure:
Each week our course it's going to have three sections. one section is dedicated to financial planning concepts. This section is
going to review the material that you probably have learned in other courses, but you need to have a comprehensive knowledge
to be able to use them when you are preparing a financial plan.
The second section is focused on preparing a comprehensive financial plan with NaviPlan. By following the course by yourself on
NaviPlan and practice, you are going to acquire hands-on knowledge on how to use the software.
And the third section is a question -and-answer session (office hour).

1. NaviPlan calculator
On the week of January 17th, the NaviPlan calculators’ questions will be published. You will be required to use NaviPlan
calculators to answer the 10 questions. For each question you need to choose which calculator to use and what is the answer
(result) to the question. By 5:00 PM of your section day on week of January 31st you must submit your answers in assignment
section of learn@Seneca. You must choose the calculator that you used for each question and the result from the multiple
choices provided. There will be two parts for each question therefore the total of 20 tests. This activity is going to have 20%
weight of your final grade.

2. Case study Assignment


On the week of January 31st, the case study assignment will be published. You will be required to complete this case study with
NaviPlan following week by week activities that we are doing on NaviPlan. By week 13 (week off April 4 th- before 5:00 PM of
your section day) your case must have been completed and you must submit a summary and the report as described in cates
study. This activity will have 20% of your final grade and will be created based on the quality (quantitative and qualitative) of the
report provided and the quality of the summary that you have written.

3. Quiz 1 and Quiz 2


As mentioned earlier a portion of this course is focused on comprehensive financial planning concepts beside using NaviPlan.
Quiz one and Quiz two are going to be two multiple choice quizzes each with 20 questions that are going to be focused on those
areas. Quiz one will be published on the week of February 21st, and you will have until 5:00 PM at the day of your section on the
week of February 28th to submit your quiz. Quiz one will be focused under concepts present it in the first half of the semester.
likewise quiz 2 would be focused on the concepts presented in the second half of semester. Quiz will be available on the week of
April 4th, and you will have time until 5:00 PM on the day of your section on the cuff April 11th 2 do your quiz. each of these
quizzes are going to have 15% of your final grade.

4. Final exam case study


your final exam will be in a case of study format. you are going to be required to complete a financial plan based on the case
study and provide a one-page summary and the report as described in the Kansas City. The case study of your final exam will be
published on the week of April 11th and the deadline is 5:00 PM EST of your section day on the week off April 18 th. Define all
cases study is going to have 30% of your final grade and it is going to be graded on the quality (quantitative and qualitative) of
the report and the one-page summary that you are providing. the correct input of the data, results, recommendations and the
writing quality will be graded.
