Grains - This group includes foods such as bread, rice, pasta, and cereal. Choose whole grain
options whenever possible.
Vegetables - Eating a variety of colorful vegetables is important for a balanced diet.
Encourage your child to try different types of veggies, such as broccoli, carrots, and sweet
potatoes.
Fruits - Fruits are a great source of vitamins and fiber. Encourage your child to choose fresh
or frozen fruits, rather than canned fruits with added sugar.
Dairy - Dairy products provide calcium for strong bones and teeth. Choose low-fat or fat-free
options, such as milk, cheese, and yogurt.
Protein - Protein helps build and repair tissues in the body. Good sources of protein include
lean meats, fish, eggs, nuts, and beans.
Fats and oils - While fats and oils are important for a healthy diet, they should be consumed
in moderation. Choose healthy fats, such as olive oil and avocado, and avoid trans fats found
in fried foods and baked goods.
