A bill of materials or product structure ( sometimes bill of material, BOM, or

associated list ) is a list of the raw materials, sub-assemblies, intermediate

assemblies, sub-components, parts, and the quantities of each needed to

manufacture an end product. It is used in the manufacturing industry to keep track

of items and their amount during production.

The bill of material breaks down all the components in a product or service and the

quantity required to manufacture that product. The BOM also includes part

numbers, descriptions, and other relevant details about each component.

A BOM will include information about the part name, quantity, and cost for each

item in the assembly. A single-level BOM includes only one level of components

(usually assemblies). A multilevel BOM includes multiple levels of components.
