Community Organization for Oppressed and Depressed

Upliftment (COODU)

INTRODUCTION:
Trainee went to the non-governmental organization “COODU” as the summer internship
training.

HISTORY:
 COODU (Community Organization for Oppressed and Depressed Upliftment)
 COODU Organization Starting the year was 1995
 Special focus on Water, Water & Sanitation, Health, Women Empowerment-especially
marginalized, downtrodden and destitute.
 Done pioneering work in the field of Watershed Management in several districts in
Tamil Nadu.
 Has diverse interests in the fields of Agriculture and Rural Development, Water and
Sanitation, Environment Development and Afforestation, Solid Waste Management,
Health and HIV/AIDS.

VISION:
“To empower the oppressed and marginalized sections of the society thereby
providing them with long-term avenues for growth and socio-economic development"

MISSION:
 Fighting for the cause of oppressed and the poorest of the poor in society.

 Identifying and solving problems of target population through participatory,


gender-based and rights-based approaches.

 Apply Convergence Model of growth and development to provide integrated


services Use state-of-the-art technology and transfer such technology to the
oppressed.

STRENGTH:

 Network with possible alliance.


 Community Organization through effective sensitization and awareness generation on
specific need-based themes.
 Mobilization of the people at the grassroots level with a focus on the poorest of the poor
& needy people.
 Effective implementation at the field level.
 Advocacy through influencing policy level decisions at appropriate forums.
STRATEGY

 Community Needs Assessment-Identification and prioritization of Needs of people in


various projects

 Training Assessment-Identification of needs of project personnel for providing


necessary skills. Also conducting training needs assessment for the projects

 Adopting Technology-Using Geographical Information System (GIS) in preparation of


Field level planning.

 Monitoring and Evaluation- Monthly, Quarterly, Half-yearly Monitoring and Terminal


Evaluation at the end of the project through Performance Indicators.

CONCLUSION :

Trainee had a nice experience in COODU.
