Transmission Of Sound

Every sound produced is by vibration which is movement that goes back and
forth of the object. Sound energy travels in a form of sound waves and these
are known to be longitudinal waves. You are only able to hear the noise when
the sound wave energy reaches your ears. There are 2 forms of sound energy
waves which are: transverse and longitudinal waves. Transverse waves are
particles that vibrate throughout the object and give off sound energy from a
right angle. Longitudinal waves are vibrations in a parallel frequency to the
directional wave of the object. There is also transmission of the sound waves
through the states of matter. In a solid, particles are closely squashed together
therefore the sound travels quickly throughout the object. In a liquid, the
particles are further apart therefore it takes a little bit longer for the sound to
travel. In a gas however, the particles are all spread apart from each other, the
sound waves travel more slowly and take longer to get to the source of the
object. Frequency is measured per second of each sound wave and is
measured in Hertz. Sound waves travel in all directions and reflect back to the
source of the object. These bounce backs of the sound waves are called
echos and it repeats it back to the source of the object.
