1. Differentiate between data & information.

 Data refers to the raw facts that are collected while information refers to processed data that
enables us to take decisions.

2.What are the different forms in which data can be represented?

 The different forms in which data can be represented are as follows: Text, Numbers, Images,
Audio, and Video.

3. What are the characteristics of data communication?

 The characteristics of data communication are; Delivery, Jitter, Accuracy and Timeliness.

4. What are the components of a data communication system?

 The components of a data communication systems are; Message, Sender, Receiver,


Transmission Line and Protocol.

5. Define computer network and categorize.

 A computer Network is defined as a collection of nodes. Computer Network are categorized on


the basis of their size. The three basic categories of computer network are; Local AREA
Network (LAN), Wide Area Network (WAN), and Metropolitan Area Network(MAN).

6. Explain protocols in details.

 A protocol is a set of rules that governs data communications. Protocol is one of the
components in data communication system. Without protocol communication cannot occur.
