Generative AI is much more than a single or even list of technologies (e.g., ChatGPT). Technology innovation leaders should
use this impact map infographic when considering the interdependent concepts that enable or inhibit the realization of
generative AI.

Overview
Creativity is powerful, and we have only begun to explore the realm of possibilities for generative AI. It enables the exploration of
many possible designs of an object to find the right or most suitable match. Generative AI will not only augment and accelerate
design in many fields, it also has the potential to “invent” novel designs or objects that humans may have missed otherwise (see
Innovation Insight for Generative AI). Clearly, generative AI is an example of a large disruption.

Generative AI refers to AI techniques that learn a representation of artifacts from data and use it to
generate brand-new, completely original artifacts that preserve a likeness to original data. These
artifacts can serve benign or nefarious purposes. Generative AI can produce totally novel media
content (including text, image, video and audio), synthetic data and models of physical objects.

Evidence
To succeed in a disruptive future, enterprises must continuously scan and respond to disruptions that will impact and/or threaten to
protect the company’s place in the markets where they’ve chosen to compete. These disruptions can undo the digital transformation
that companies have worked so hard to achieve. Oftentimes, these disruptions are made up of a combination of innovation and
trends that may occur across the TAPESTRY categories (technological, political, economic, social/cultural, trust/ethics,
regulatory/legal, and environmental).

To understand the impacts that may drive or be driven by the generative AI, technology innovation leaders should use this
infographic to evaluate dimensions across each TAPESTRY category. This is not meant to be a comprehensive or exhaustive list, but
rather to stimulate the conversation further and show that the generative AI is much more than a group of technologies and use
cases.
