You may be aware that TikTok is being attempted to be banned by the US government. If that
doesn't work (the Chinese government has stated that it will oppose this), the ban could be
introduced in the form of an executive order banning business dealings with TikTok, i.e.
banning it from stores. Lawmakers want TikTok to divest from its Chinese parent company

II. Body
1, What is TikTok?
TikTok is a Chinese social media and music video platform launched in 2017, for markets
outside of China. by Truong Nhat Minh, founder of ByteDance. It is used to create short music,
lip-syncing, dance, comedy, and talent videos from 3 to 15 seconds, and short repeat videos
from 3 to 60 seconds. ByteDance first launched Douyin for the Chinese market in September
2016. TikTok was subsequently launched in 2017 for iOS and Android in most markets outside
of mainland China; however, it is only available worldwide, including the US, after merging with
Musical.ly on August 2, 2018. (Mai, T. 2023)
TikTok has 800 million active users worldwide. 41% of TikTok users are between the ages of 16
and 24. TikTok has been downloaded 611 million times in India, accounting for about 30% of
the app's total global downloads. In February 2019, TikTok hit its first billion downloads. This
app took less than 8 months to earn half a billion more. These numbers are nothing short of
impressive, as the app was only launched in 2016. The majority of TikTok's users are from Asia
and especially India. TikTok has been downloaded more than 611 million times in India,
accounting for about 30% of the app's total global downloads (Sensor Tower, 2020). When it
comes to daily time on TikTok, users spend an average of 52 minutes per day on the app
(BusinessofApps, 2019). So this means that people use the social networking app daily to create
and share their own short videos or to watch the plethora of existing TikTok videos uploaded to
the platform. Either way, they're doing it for almost an hour a day.

2, pros
 TikTok is entertaining
 TikTok's filters are awesome.
 TikTok is easy to learn
 TikTok keeps innovating itself.
 TikTok offers free music
 TikTok is a good time killer
 TikTok helps marketers.
 TikTok helps shoppers .

3, cons
 TikTok leads to vandalism
 TikTok stories are disappointing
 TikTok wastes your time
 TikTok's algorithm is very unpredictable
 TikTok Plus has its weak points (TikTok Plus, a version of TikTok, has additional features.
However, according to my research, the app keeps crashing)

(Janice WaldJanice Wald ,2023)

 The scariest thing is tiktok's algorithmic technology:

Some fear this will have an adverse effect on users' mental health. TikTok seems to
discover things about users that they don't necessarily know about themselves, more
precisely TikTok shows users what they will put their attention on, which sparks curiosity
and even is addictive.

A recent report by the Wall Street Journal showed how TikTok relies on the amount of
time users spend watching videos each day to analyze, recommend a lot of related
content, making users unable to stop "scrolling" down. and that process can sometimes
lead young viewers into dangerous pits, especially for content that promotes suicide or
self-harm - issues TikTok says it is working to address. block by forcefully removing
content that violates our terms of service.

"The algorithms knew I was bi-sexual before I realized it," John told Mashable. In these
moments, TikTok is like a mirror, magnifying and reflecting what we are trying to hide.
The real purpose of TikTok is not psychoanalysis, but profit. “The algorithm is just trying
to make you different from other users to get attention, and it will,” said Johannes
Eichstaedt, a scientist at the Stanford Institute for Artificial Intelligence (AI). make
money from it”

Guillaume Chaslot, founder of Algo Transparency, reviewed the TikTok document and
said: “For every view, TikTok gets a piece of information. In a few hours, the algorithm
can detect musical preferences, physical attractiveness, whether the person is depressed
or addicted to drugs, and much more sensitive information. There is a high risk that some
of this information could be used against the users themselves.”

III. Influence

1, influence morality

TikTok is considered a form of entertainment but if it is overused it will cause the most serious
consequences for children, but teenagers of teaching age. Recently, the Q&Me site
published a study that shows that the habits of Vietnamese users during the epidemic have
changed dramatically. Specifically, with young people spending a lot of time watching
online videos on Youtube and TikTok, the trend is shifting more to watching TikTok.
Meanwhile, adults spend a lot of free time on Zalo after Facebook.

(Tuyết, N.T.Á. ,2023)

TikTok has made the dream of becoming a celebrity easier for young people through "million-
view" products. However, Currently, there are quite strict censorship regimes and community
standards for themselves. However, Tiktok still cannot control all these types of dirty content. It's
up to both viewers and creators to be proactive in avoiding the influence or creation of this
malicious content. So is there any dirty content on Tiktok that you should stay away from if you
don't want to affect your channel:

 Dirty content promotes violence

 Content about sex exceeds the allowed level of fine customs
 Content that criticizes and defames the dignity and honor of others
 Content that guides acts of profiteering, fraud, and deceiving others
(ChayNhanh.com ,2022)

The above types of content are just a few of the junk content. How will young people
who have not yet thought clearly feel, when they are exposed to such content?

on the other hand, not tiktok does not have good content. many people use it to spread
good things. Where community campaigns are spread:

6 months ago, dancer and choreographer Quang Dang appeared full of energy with a
lovely, easy-to-follow choreography called #vudieuruatay on TikTok and left a strong
impression in the community. This is also a campaign that TikTok and the Ministry of
Health jointly implemented to raise people's awareness in the prevention of the Covid-19
epidemic. The campaign has been successful in spreading positive energy, giving people
spiritual strength during the epidemic season. As proof, #vudieuruatay has spread
everywhere and received more than 206 million views and more than 40,000 videos, not
only from Vietnam but also from global TikTok users. Quang Dang shared, "In TikTok, I
can explore creativity, and gain a new perspective to use that creativity to create positive
impacts on the community."(Tuyết, N.T.Á, 2023)

2, Influence behavior

 Distracing

The researchers looked at how the brain responds to generic and personalized videos. The results
show that videos that match viewers' interests can activate the brain's reward system center.
The reward system plays an extremely important role in shaping emotions and directing human
actions, and functions to create feelings of pleasure and desire.

"We're pretty much influenced by these apps to modify our behavior for instant gratification,"
said Dr. Justin Shleifer, a child and adolescent psychiatrist at Bradley Hospital.

While instant gratification sounds great, it can affect the brain hours after closing the app.

“I worry that kids will have a harder time reading if they’re used to getting instant gratification
like doing TikTok scrolling,” says Shleifer.

 Conceal yourself while playing TikTok:

Nowadays, with busy lifestyles, many parents equip their children with smartphones to use. In
addition, over the past time, students have had to study more online, so they have more
opportunities to access smartphones online. Many children, after a period of time using social
networks such as TikTok, YouTube, Facebook ... and are unconsciously affected by psychology
and behavior such as withdrawing from the room, not being interested in playing with friends.

 Creating Digital Dementia:

A term to describe the excessive use of digital technology and leading to a decline in our
cognitive and thinking abilities. In one of his research articles, Larry Dossey writes that
excessive internet use can overdevelop our left brain and underdevelop our right brain - this
leads to greatly affected concentration and memory. So it's not surprising if you see someone
using Tiktok excessively and "forgetful" (Tuyết, N.T.Á. ,2023)

IV. Conclusion:

Social development is a good thing, a world where making friends and communicating is
faster and closer together, but let it go in the right and reasonable direction. TikTok is not
that bad. The most important is how we approach it. So live a healthy life, use social
media wisely, and let it be a means to help you grow and get better. Don't let it kill your
soul.
