Prayer for our Beloved Dead

Opening Song: Sing a new song

Sing a new song unto the Lord;

Let your song be sung from mountains high.
Sing a new song unto the Lord,
Singing Alleluia.

Glad my souls for I have seen

The glory of the Lord.
The trumpet sounds the dead shall be raised.
I know my Savior lives.

Sing a new song unto the Lord;

Let your song be sung from mountains high.
Sing a new song unto the Lord,
Singing Alleluia.

Call to Prayer: We gather today to commend our deceased brethren, _________

to God. We recall in silence his/ her loving service to our community and others,
and pray that God may welcome him/ her into eternal glory. + In the name of the
Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

L: Loving God, You promised fullness of joy to those who seek Your face.
Trusting in Your Word, we pray to You for our brethren, _________, who
sought to further Your reign on earth by his/ her service. Though we are
saddened that he/ she is no longer with us, we entrust him/ her to You with
confidence. May he/ she now live in peace, joy and happiness. We ask this
in the name of Jesus our Lord. Amen.

Scriptural Reading: A reading from the First letter of Paul to the Thessalonians
(4: 13-18)

We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers and sisters, about those who have
died, so that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. For since we
believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with
Him those who have died. For this we declare to you by the word of the Lord, that
we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will by no means
precede those who have died. For the Lord Himself, with a cry of command, with
the archangel's call and with the sound of God's trumpet, will descend from
heaven, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left,
will be caught up in the clouds together with them to meet the Lord in the air; and
so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore encourage one another with these
words.
(The Word of the Lord.)
(Silent Reflection)
Solo: How lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord, Mighty God, Lord of all. (Psalm
84)
1. Even the lowly sparrow finds a home for her brood. And the swallow a nest for
herself, where she may lay her young; in Your altar, my King and my God.
2. Blessed are they whose dwelling is Your own, Lord of Peace. Blest are they
refreshed by springs and by rains, when dryness daunts and scathes. Behold my
shield, my king and my God.
3. I would forsake a thousand other days anywhere. If I could spend one day in
Your courts, belong to You alone. My strength are You alone; my Glory, my King
and my God.

Intercessions:
L: Loving God, you are the Author of Life. We come in confidence that you
will hear the prayer of your people. In every prayer let our response be:
LORD, You are the Resurrection and the Life.
1. We pray for our brethren, _______ , who was baptized into Your everlasting
life. Receive him/ her now into Your heavenly dwelling. We pray.
2. Give strength to his/ her family and friends who mourn. Help us to bear the
burden of sorrow in a spirit of faith and hope. We pray.
3. We pray for all our deceased loved ones and friends who have died in faith,
may they be raised up on the last day. We pray.
L: God of power and mercy, you have made death itself the gateway to eternal
life. Look with love on our brethren, _______, and make him/ her one with
Your Son in eternal peace and happiness. Together let us sing the Our Father
… Hail Mary, Glory Be …

Leader: (optional) In faith, we believe that our beloved ___________, might have
prayed this way:

“I AM FREE”
Don’t grieve for ME, I am free. I’m following the path God laid for me.
I took His hand when I heard Him call, I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day, to laugh, to love, to work or play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way, I found that place at the end of the day.
If our parting has left a void, then fill it with remembered joys.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a hug. Ah yes! These things I too will miss.
Be not burdened with times of sorrow, I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life been full, I savored much good friends, good times, a loved one’s touch.
Perhaps my time seemed all too brief, don’t lengthen it now with undue grief
Lift up your heart and share with me. God wanted me now, He set me free.

L: Eternal rest grant unto ___________, O Lord.

All: And let Your perpetual light shine upon him/ her.
L: May God bless us all, through Jesus, our Redeemer, and in the power of the
Holy Spirit.
All: + In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Song: Pananagutan
