Teacher Questionnaire
1. What does teaching at a Christian school mean for you, and how do you plan to teach
the gospel in and through your classes?
Teaching at a Christian school means that experiences that I have not yet had may present
themselves ahead of me as well as new approaches to education and pedagogy. Gospel
readings and interpretations should be an outstanding way to introduce new vocabulary
and promote reflection within a language classroom. Strategies using the Word and
meetings to discuss its meaning seem to be a great way to motivate thinking, self-
assessment, and the learning of new words.

2. Why do you want to teach at AVA specifically (as opposed to other schools)?
As mentioned before, AVA is not only a famous institution as it holds important and
relevant adjectives that would make any teacher interested in having a position at the
school. I want to become a teacher at AVA because it can, and certainly will, provide me
with life-changing experiences both in my spiritual life and professional career.

3. What do you consider your greatest strength in teaching?

I am very well versed in classroom management and creating well thought out learning
atmospheres where both students and educators feel comfortable. When the good rapport
is rooted in the classroom, it is very difficult for any process not to take place. My old
managers used to say that I knew (know) how to build a great balance between learning,
rapport, and boundaries.

4. What do you consider your greatest weakness in teaching?

Sometimes it is difficult for me to visualize when I am demanding too high from learners.
5. How do you handle change and, especially, adapt to changes in your work environment?
Can you give some personal examples from previous teaching experience?
I am prone to believe that changes are part of our routine. To be adaptable is very
important at the present time and I would go as farther as to say that it is indispensable. I
have had two major experiences that reflect how adaptability is important: the first one is
about changing my career from a basic language teacher to a schoolteacher. Being an
educator requires at least double more attention while planning and executing the lessons.
Not to mention that you must have a different type of look to your pupils – holistically
speaking. The second major change was leaving the classroom behind (which I miss so
much) to embrace the managing world of Academic Coordination.
.

6. Where do you see yourself 5 years from now (Can be spiritually, physically, cognitively,
etc.)?
In 5 years from now I want to be practicing my spirituality on a regular basis and I want to
have my PhD.

7. Give one experience from teaching that has really helped you grow and explain why.
Five years ago, I had a student that was feared by all teachers at the school that I worked
for he was known to hit, destroy objects and curse any adult around him. The time came
and I had to teach him and like no other I also feared him. As time passed, I transformed my
fear and sometimes anger into love. I started treating him as my own son. By the end of the
schoolyear, he was a completely different learner and so I was a different educator.
Teaching showed me that if you have the vocation to love and care about your classroom,
you can change lives.

8. Describe your ideal classroom including setting, curriculum, size, etc.

My classroom is print-reach and very colorful, with songs and poems on the walls. Kids or
teenagers sit either in groups or in a semi-circle. There is a well stablished routine and
students know how to work independently. We use the Canadian curriculum and there are
about 25 children learning at the same time.

9. How do you usually handle discipline and classroom management? Please use some
examples from your experience.
At the very beginning of the schoolyear, I stablish an agreement with the entire classroom,
and I consistently refer to it as the year progresses. I am also prone to use positive discipline
in the classroom promoting talking time and classroom meetings to discuss with learners
possible solutions to issues raised by me and the students themselves.
In my last employment, I used to have classroom meetings every Friday and during the
week learners would deposit notes on a box with their complains and suggestions to be
discussed during the meeting. I would share the notes and we would vote on the best
solutions to everyone. Somethings were negotiable and others were not. We could only
debate on negotiable things.

10. What is your previous experience teaching students who speak English as a second
language? I was an academic coordinator of a major Canadian school in São Paulo and as
such I was responsible for the education of 450 children studying on Elementary School.
They were all students of English as a second language. I was primarily responsible for
training the teachers on how to linguistically educate the pupils.
Theology Questions

1. What does the term "Inspiration of Scriptures” mean?

According to my research, it means that all scripture is given by inspiration

of God. This is what theologians are referring to when they talk about the
“inspiration” of Scripture: the idea that God “breathed into” the biblical
writers.

2. Describe what it means for the Bible to be inerrant?

Biblical inerrancy is the belief that the Bible "is without error or fault in all
its teaching"; or, at least, that "Scripture in the original manuscripts does
not affirm anything that is contrary to fact". Some equate inerrancy with
biblical infallibility; others do not.

3. Is the Apocrypha part of the inerrant word of God? Explain?

I wouldn’t know.

4. In light of the intellectuality of the world in the 21st century is the best
interpretations of the Bible is from an Allegorical point of view?

I am prone to believe that nothing Biblical should be Allegorical. It should

be treated with the seriousness it demands.

5. Do you believe the Bible is the Word of God? If so, what sets it apart from
other books like the book of Mormon, the Koran

The Bible is the word of God according to my believes. I wouldn’t know the
difference or explain why.

6. Genesis 1 says God created the world in 6 days? Describe for me what you
believe is meant by the phrase “6 days”?

I honestly couldn’t answer this question.

7. The Bible says Jesus performed many miracles. What is your understanding
of a miracle? Do you believe Jesus did them? Are miracles being
performed today? If not, why do you think that is?

I am sure miracles happen every day when we wake up. Miracle is

everything for it all was created by Him.
8. A student and or parent tells you that the bible is an old book with
outdated values that go against the norm of today’s society, things like
drinking, views against homosexuality, divorce and remarriage, how would
you respond? I would say that God is all about loving the other as you love
yourself and that is what is taught in the Bible if only, you’re willing to see.
In addition to that I would invite the family to the reunions held at school.

9. Describe what you believe the Bible teaches about what hell is? Is it a
physical place or is it a metaphor in the bible? Part B If you believe it is a
place where people go how do you explain how a loving God could send
people there just for not believing in Jesus.
I am prone to believe that it is a metaphor as infinite love is what God
consists of. We can only exist because there is this supreme power that
believes in us even when we cannot trust ourselves.

10. What is the gospel of Jesus Christ?

I honestly don’t know. I hope to learn soon.

11. How important is the resurrection to the gospel?

Everyone will be reunited as one, in Christ.

12. Jesus said “I go to prepare a place for you, and if I go and prepare a place
for you, I will come again.” thoroughly describe what the phrase “I will
come again means” means to you.
That He still lives and will come to save each one of us.
