KANSAS CITY, MO. – The highlights of CinemaKC’s upcoming eleventh episode of its third
season include two documentary filmmakers, one dedicated to revealing the lesser known
histories of Kansas City and the other investigating the devastating effects of a dangerous
element. The episode will run on Friday, Sept. 12, at 12:30 a.m. on the local PBS channel,
KCPT.

One of the two featured filmmakers, Terence O’Malley, discusses his trio of documentaries
that includes Nelly Don: A Stitch in Time, Black Hand Straw Man: A History of Organized
Crime in Kansas City, and Tom & Harry: The Boss and the President. Nelly Don tells of the
self-made K.C. business woman known for designing and selling dresses. Black Hand Straw
Man chronicles the mobsters of K.C. in the twentieth century. The seemingly unlikely
relationship of President Harry S. Truman and politician Tom Pendergast is explored in Tom &
Harry. O’Malley is also a lawyer, familiar with the workings of law and politics that give him a
foothold in his detailed films on the subjects. Excerpts from these documentaries will be
shown. More on these films can be found at http://www.nellydon.com/ ,
http://www.blackhandstrawman.com/ , and http://tomandharrydocumentary.com/ .

The next guest, Randall Moore, asks the question “what’s going into our mouths?!” with a
short factual video Dental Mercury’s Toxic Journey into the Environment. After Moore’s father
was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, he conducted research that eventually shed some
light on a startling aspect of the dental industry. He found that 120 million people have been
introduced to potential mercury poisoning through its use in amalgam fillings. This resulted in
the creation of the in-depth documentary You Put What in My Mouth? and associated
material. More on the topic can be found at http://www.mercuryexposure.info/ .

Hosts Michelle Davidson and Erin McGrane will conduct guest interviews and present
featured films.

The next episode of CinemaKC will feature work from Through a Glass Productions and a
K.U. graduate’s look at artists of Lawrence, K.S. Guests will include Jeremy Osbern, Chris
Blunk, and Paige Girard. The episode will air Friday, Sept. 19, at 12:30 a.m. on the local PBS
channel, KCPT.
