1.0 INTRODUCTION
The student industrial training is the training programme which forms part of
the academic standards in the various degree programmes for all Nigeria Tertiary
Institutions. It seeks to bridge the gap existing between technology and other
professional education programmes in Nigerian Tertiary Institutions.
BRIEF HISTORY OF SIWES
Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) was established in 1971 by
decree 47 with the aim of promoting and encouraging the acquisition of skills in the private
and public industries.
The word SIWES (Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme) was introduced by the
federal government In the year 1973 to develop the technological, physical and social skill of
our nation, through this, adequate and intelligent student are provided the department
involved the actual challenge various discipline before they can be awarded as a National
Diploma (ND) graduate. Its relevance in education system cannot be over emphasized as it
develops the student to become skilled and experience professionalism in their various
disciplines. It enables students to appreciate the basic concept involved in their field of
study. It is also an effort to bridge the gap existing between theory and practical, in the
sense that it exposes students to real industrial work experience. SIWES, which involves the
University authorities and the industrial sector, runs for 24weeks for students in the fourth
academic year in universities. The scheme was organized by the Federal Government and
jointly coordinated by the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) and the Nigeria Universities
Commission (NUC).The importance of the training scheme is justified as it is a research field,
which enables students to be totally in-depth in finding the working culture, practice and
tools in their various areas of specialization.
The Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) is a skill training
programme that prepares students of higher institution for Industrial Work against their
graduating period. It’s a tripartite programme involving the students, the University and
Industry. It was funded by the Federal Government of Nigeria and jointly coordinated by
ITF and the National Universities Commission (NUC).

4.0 CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS
CONCLUSION
CONCLUSION
My industrial training at Nigerian Port Authority. The company conferred me the opportunity
to interact and exchange ideas with Students from other Institutions of Higher learning. It
also helped me work and relate with people from different religious, ethnic, educational and
social background. This I believe better equips me for the world outside the walls of the
University campus. The Industrial Training also exposed me to the more practical aspects of
the theories I have studied in school.
